OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A fire at an Oceanside home early this morning displaced four people, but no one was injured, fire officials said today.Around 11:30 p.m. Friday, dispatchers received a report of a fire at a home in the 4000 block of Marcella Street, which is just west of College Boulevard and south of Oceanside Boulevard, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.Crews arrived and initially believed the fire was contained to a sunroom that had been added onto the home in the backyard, officials said.However, firefighters found out the fire had actually engulfed the kitchen and spread to the attic.  The fire was out about 30 minutes after crews first arrived, officials said.A family of four adults was displaced and the American Red Cross helped with providing them shelter.A fire department investigator will look into the cause of the blaze, officials said. 888

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A car reportedly flew off a freeway in North San Diego County, causing a chain reaction collision.A 20-year-old woman driving a Buick reportedly careened off westbound SR-78 near El Camino Real, through the fence separating the freeway from the Vista Way, and collided head-on with a Ford Thunderbird being driven by a 47-year-old woman traveling eastbound.The collision set off a chain reaction, sideswiping a Nissan van towing a small boat. The boat then came loose from its trailer and flew into the westbound lanes of Vista Way, striking a Toyota Prius, being driven by a 43-year-old man, and a Chrysler 300 being driven by a 95-year-old man.The driver and a male passenger in the Buick both sustained major injuries and were airlifted to Scripps La Jolla hospital. Another male passenger sitting in the back seat of the Buick received minor injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center.The driver of the Thunderbird was slightly injured as well, but not taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.Police are investigating what led to the Buick driving off the freeway, but said they do not suspect alcohol or drugs to have been a factor. 1216

Oklahoma legislators approved a measure including a ,100 pay raise for teachers, but the state teacher's union says the bill doesn't go far enough and plans to walk out Monday.House Bill 1010XX, which was described as "the largest teacher pay raise in the history of the state" passed both the state House and Senate this week. "It was not easy getting here."For weeks, Oklahoma teachers have been considering a walkout over what they say is their breaking point over pay and education funding. The state ranks 49th in the nation in teacher salaries, according to the National Education Association, in a list that includes Washington, D.C. Mississippi and South Dakota rank lower.Inspired by the West Virginia strike in which teachers demanded and got a pay raise from state leaders earlier this month, similar efforts have taken off in Oklahoma and Arizona.The Oklahoma Education Association, the state's largest teachers' union that represents nearly 40,000 members and school personnel, called the passage of the bill "a truly historic moment," but one that remains "incomplete," according to its president, Alicia Priest.Teachers and school staff will walk off their jobs on Monday and descend on the state Capitol, she said in video comments posted on Facebook.Oklahoma City Public Schools said all classes and activities are canceled for that day because of the walkout."While this is major progress, this investment alone will not undo a decade of neglect," Priest said.
