IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — Imperial Beach is closing off traffic in front of the IB Pier in order to help businesses and restaurants utilize more space for social distancing. The city says Seacoast Drive, from Date Avenue to Elder Ave., will be closed to motorists from Saturday to Monday so that not only residents can social distance, but nearby retail stores and restaurants can get creative with spacing."With many businesses able to reopen to customers, we will see some 'out of the box' thinking from our businesses to maximize their area to increase spacial distancing," the city wrote on Facebook.RELATED:Pacific Beach's El Prez shut down for violating health ordersWhat to know: Changes at beaches, restaurants this Memorial Day weekendWith many retail stores and restaurants reopened this Memorial Day weekend, local cities expect more residents to head outdoors. While restaurants have been allowed to reopen under county guidelines, some establishments may see the county force them to close if they do not meet protocols. Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath have dumped trillions of gallons of rain across Texas and Louisiana over six days. Homes, office buildings and other structures along the Gulf Coast and in Houston's Harris County, were flooded, their occupants forced to find higher ground. To reach safety, most local residents waded through the murky streams, in some cases for hours.Scientists, including Lane Voorhies, a senior environmental scientist at A&B Labs in Houston, expressed concern about what this water might contain."The potential for contamination is everywhere," Voorhies told Elizabeth Cohen, CNN senior medical correspondent. In particular, he worried about the health effects among people who had spent time in the water, especially those who might have gotten cut while walking through the murky depths. People with underlying illnesses, pregnant women, the elderly and young children would also be more susceptible to illnesses resulting from contact with contaminated water. 997

In an episode of his widely popular podcast that was released on Thursday, Joe Rogan repeated the debunked claim that left-wing provocateurs had been arrested for setting wildfires in Oregon.Last week, rumors began spreading on social media that left-wing activists, anti-fascists and members of the right-wing group The Proud Boys were responsible for setting at least some of the wildfires that are currently ravaging the state. The online rumors prompted social media posts from several local law enforcement agencies in which they debunked the rumors and asked local residents to refrain from spreading disinformation. The Douglas County Sheriff's Department even said that rumors of antifa-sparked wildfires caused their emergency disptach system to become overrun.Even the FBI debunked the rumors in a press release on Sept. 11."FBI Portland and local law enforcement agencies have been receiving reports that extremists are responsible for setting wildfires in Oregon. With our state and local partners, the FBI has investigated several such reports and found them to be untrue," the FBI's statement read. But in an episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience" released Thursday, the podcast host repeated the debunked claim to millions of listeners."I actually love Portland, it's one of my favorite places to perform. Most of the people there are very nice. But there's a madness going on there — you want to talk about madness in crowds. That exemplifies that right now," Rogan said."They've arrested people for lighting forest fires up there. They've arrested left-wing people for lighting these forest fires," Rogan added. "You know, air quote 'activists.' This is also something not widely being reported that people have been arrested for lighting fires up there." 1777
