WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's growth is a very important force in the global recovery, World Bank Group President Robert B. Zoellick told reporters here on Thursday in response to a Xinhua question.Zoellick made the remarks during a press briefing ahead of the Bank's annual meeting this weekend.Asked what China can contribute to the world development, the president, who just concluded a week-long China tour last month, said China's growth itself is important contribution to the world. World Bank President Robert B. He stressed that protectionism is not a way out, and it may only risk the repetition of mistakes of the 1930s.

BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's speech on the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Shenzhen special economic zone (SEZ) was published in five ethnic minority languages on Friday.Shenzhen, a southern coastal city neighboring Hong Kong, marked its 30th anniversary as China's first economic reform zone on Sept. 6.At that day's celebratory rally, Hu said the central government would always support the country's special economic zones, embarking on "brave exploration" in their roles as "first movers.""The SEZs will not only continue, but should work better," Hu said.The late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping first proposed building Shenzhen into a SEZ in the late 1970s.On Aug. 26, 1980, China's top legislature approved the establishment of the Shenzhen SEZ.The speech was published by the Ethnic Publishing House in five minority languages, including Mongolian, Tibetan, Uygur, Kazakstan and Korean.

HEFEI, Sep. 4 (Xinhua) -- Innovation in Chinese enterprises is steadily increasing with more patents filed and more funds invested in research and development (R&D), the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) said Saturday.The top 500 Chinese enterprises possessed 169,000 patents in 2010, up 13.3 percent from last year, according to a report released by the CEC.Among the top 500 companies, 41 had more than 1,000 patents, while 36 companies owned more than 200 patents for innovations, the report said.Chinese enterprises were also investing a larger share of their revenues into R&D.Each of the top 500 firms allocated, on average, 775 million yuan (113.93 million U.S. dollars) into R&D, an increase of 14.4 percent from 2009 and accounting for 1.4 percent of their total revenues, the CEC said.Of the 500 firms, 17 spent more than five percent of their revenues on R&D, while another 60 enterprises invested from five to 10 percent of their revenues into R&D, according to the report.In 2009, China filed 7,946 international patents, up 29.7 percent from 2008 and ranking fifth in the world, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
