While fans are not allowed to attend any MLB games in the shortened 2020 season, the Oakland Athletics came up with a brilliant way to "bring in" fans.The team unveiled its "Coliseum Cutouts" program, where A's fans will get a chance to display the cardboard cutout of themselves during games.The team's staff will try to fill the stands with the cutouts. Prices range from to 9 for each cutout. If a cutout in the program's foul ball zone gets hit with a foul ball, the A's will send the ball to that fan.Proceeds from this program will benefit the team's charity partners.With every purchase of a cutout, the fan will also receive two complimentary tickets to the A's first exhibition game at the Coliseum during the 2021 season. With its low air pressure, Hurricane Michael unofficially sits as the third-strongest landfalling hurricane to strike the United States. Having such a tremendously low air pressure typically causes storms to have strong winds, and Michael was no exception. Hurricane Hunters from the Air Force and NOAA estimated Michael's lowest pressure was 919 MB at landfall. The only two hurricanes with a lower pressure at landfall to hit the United States were the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 and Camille of 1969.Also based on estimates, Michael had top winds of 155 MPH, which is just below Category 5 status. Based on top winds speeds, Michael was tied for the sixth-strongest landfalling hurricane in US history, tied with Hurricane Maria in 2017 and "Guam" in 1900. In terms of air pressure, Michael was 1 MB stronger than Katrina in 2005 and Maria in 2017 at landfall, and 3 MBs stronger than Andrew of 1992. Michael's top winds at landfall were well ahead of Katrina's top winds at landfall of 130 MPH, on par with Maria's top winds at landfall of 155 MPH, but below Andrew's top winds of 165 MPH.But in the immediate aftermath of Andrew, it was declared a Category 4 hurricane at landfall. It was not until years later when the National Hurricane Center concluded that winds in Andrew were greater than 157 MPH, marking the only Category 5 hurricane to strike the US since Camille in 1969. Like Andrew, Michael continued to strengthen all the way until landfall. In just three days, the storm went from a tropical storm to a high-end Category 4 hurricane. Other reasons Micheal will be notable:- Michael was just the sixth hurricane of at least Category 4 strength to hit Florida since 1950.  1752

With coronavirus cases spreading among White House staff, the Commission on Presidential Debates confirmed Monday evening that a Plexiglas partition will be used on stage during Wednesday’s vice presidential debate.Peter Eyre, a senior adviser to the debate commission, said that the candidates will be seated 12 feet, 3 inches apart, and that there will be no handshakes allowed on stage between the candidates or moderator.Eyre added that the candidates, Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris, will be tested for the coronavirus before the debate. For the previous debate, the candidates were responsible for their own coronavirus testing.Only the candidates and moderator will be allowed to not wear a mask during the debate, also a change from last week’s presidential debate. During last week’s presidential debate, members of President Donald Trump’s entourage took off their masks during the debate.Eyre said that a small number of ticketed guests will be allowed into the debate hall in Utah.“If anyone does not wear a mask, they will be escorted out,” Eyre confirmed.Plexiglas was also used in last Saturday's US Senate debate between Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Jamie Garrison. A Pence aide said a divider was "not needed."“If she wants it, she’s more than welcome to surround herself with plexiglass if that makes her feel more comfortable,” Marc Short, the vice president’s chief of staff, told the Washington Post. “It’s not needed.” 1479

When it comes to airline safety, mechanical problems and security issues are usually a passenger's top concerns. But there's a possible health risk airline crew members call a stinky little secret.Crew members work to keep passengers safe and comfortable when flying but there's a secret they want you to know about in the cabin air. Flight attendants and pilots call it the "dirty sock smell."One flight attendant, who was granted anonymity for this story for fear of losing his job, says that smell sent him to the emergency room last summer."(The) smell kept getting intense, intense. (I) started to get light-headed, wanting to throw up," "Andrew" said. "For almost 15 minutes the smell just kept getting stronger and it didn't go away. That's when I felt extremely sick, light-headed and was hard to breathe."He wasn't the only one with a serious reaction.   "My other flight attendant next to me asked, 'Is that the smell that everyone's been talking about?' Everyone called it the 'dirty sock smell,'" the flight attendant said.According to industry insiders, the source of that foul stench comes from how airplanes are designed. Air in airplane cabins comes from "bleed air" — air that begins as fresh air outside that enters the jet engine. After entering the engine, some of that air "bleeds" off, mixed in with recycled cabin air and then is pumped back into the cabin.When a gasket leaks inside the jet engine, fumes from hydraulic fluids, oils or de-icing agents can enter the cabin.Julie Anderson, a representative from flight attendant union Association of Flight Attendants, says some of the oils that enter the cabin contain neurotoxic additives."Engine oil fumes contain a very complex mixture of chemicals that can include carbon monoxide," Anderson said. She added that the "dirty sock smell" can lead to hypoxia, headache, dizziness, feeling faint, confusion and even incapacitation."That's obviously an issue for flight safety and security," she said.When Andrew's plane landed and the flight attendants' symptoms persisted, they were sent to the emergency room."They said I had a high level of carbon monoxide detected in my blood," he said. Anderson says the industry has known about the problem since the 1950's and she says the solution is elementary. "My 11-year-old can recognize that it doesn't make sense to compress air in an engine that can leak oil, and feed that air to people in an enclosed space, without putting a filter on board," she said. As simple as that sounds, the stink about dirty sock smell is wafting into the courtroom. In an ongoing lawsuit, a group of flight attendants is suing Boeing, claiming their health suffered from a fume event on an Alaska Airlines flight. Boeing declined a request for an interview but issued a statement, saying that "Boeing has not changed its position that cabin air is safe to breathe." (See Boeing's full statement below) Even so, Boeing's new Dreamliner 787 doesn't use bleed air at all. Instead, air is generated by compressors. But that's the only plane in the sky using that system. Flight attendant Andrew is now plagued by a nagging cough and has to use an inhaler, causing him to worry more about travelers.   "I was concerned that if someone got sick, they wouldn't know why they got sick," he said. "My first responsibility is the safety and security of my passengers."Airbus, the FAA and trade organization Airlines for America all issued statements when asked for comment. Airbus stated they are "...not familiar with the events you're talking about" and referred to this study which concludes while concentrates in cabin air are present, they are very low and evidence doesn't show there is a health risk. The European Aviation Safety Agency published studies on cabin air quality in March of 2017. Allegiant and Spirit never responded to a request for comment. United Airlines referred reporters to Airlines for America.STATEMENT FROM BOEING: 4066
