SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The crowds at San Diego International Airport grew Friday night, as travelers kicked off the holiday travel weekend. AAA predicts a record-breaking 115 million Americans will travel this holiday season, up nearly 4 percent from last year. Of those travelers, AAA estimates 105 million people will drive, 7 million will fly, and 4 million will take the train, bus, or cruise ships. According to AAA, airports around the US will be busiest between Dec. 21 through 23. They said they were travel pros, who purposely wait until the last second to fly, thanks to father Joel's job at Southwest Airlines. "I literally cannot come home to see them until I have to leave to come and do it, so it means a lot. We all get together. It doesn't happen all the time," Jauan said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance video caught on team of thieves targeting a home in Point Loma. The home sits on a street just off Catalina boulevard. Last Thursday, just before 8 p.m., an SUV is seen driving up and then driving away. 12 minutes later, it's back. This time, it parks. As the camera switches to night vision, three figures emerge. On the side of the home, they are seen hunting for a way in. The dual-pane sliding door in the kitchen is later found shattered. The next time they are seen, the three burglars wearing hoodies are scrambling out of the home, two of them carrying safes. Once they reach the SUV, they toss the safes into the back and take off. Inside the safes: a partial coin collection and dozens of pieces of jewelry, many of them family heirlooms. "I'm angry amd there is a feeling of being empty," said David, who asked 10news not to identify him. One of the stolen pieces is an opal-and-diamond necklace belonging to David's 90-year-old mother, who is living with dementia. She helped design the piece to celebrate her journey from file clerk to business owner at the same business. "Something missing you can't replace ... My mother became a success in a man's world. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The driver of the McLaren sports car involved in a fiery fatal crash on Interstate 805 Thursday and the mother and daughter who died have been identified.Trevor Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 sports car that collided with an SUV, killing himself, and a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner. The mother and daughter were identified by a relative as Aileen and Aryana Pizarro. The medical examiner is using an alternative means to identify the bodies because of how badly they were burned, according to the California Highway Patrol.Heitmann was traveling at a high rate of speed heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Dr. before the collision, CHP said. Troopers believe he entered via an HOV lane access at Carol Canyon Rd.RELATED: 12-year-old among victims in fiery wrong-way crash on I-805The two vehicles collided and exploded into flames, witnesses told 10News, causing a chain reaction of crashes with at least five other vehicles.Heitmann was killed of blunt force trauma and pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner reported.The mother and daughter in the SUV died due to the fire which engulfed the vehicle after the crash, the report said.It's still not clear why Heitmann was traveling at such a high rate of speed in the wrong direction.
