A shooter opened fire at a church in the Northern Caucasus region of southern Russia on Sunday, killing five people and wounding two others, authorities said, according to state media.The incident took place at a church in Kizlyar in the restive Russian republic of Dagestan.Police responded, traded fire with the shooter and killed him, the authorities said. Two officers were injured in the gunfight, they said.The shooting occurred during Maslenitsa, a festival celebrated in Russia that is full of dancing, lots of pancakes and carnival-like festivities.Russian state news agency Tass spoke to a law enforcement source who said that "the unknown person opened fire on people celebrating Maslenitsa."Kizlyar Mayor Alexander Shuvalov was quoted by Tass as saying that the attacker opened fire on "people after leaving the service."It was not immediately known who was behind the attack.Dagestan and its neighbor Chechnya have been wracked by separatist and Islamic violence in recent years. 1010

A Michigan man is disgusted after an incident on a Delta Air Lines flight involving a service dog and the mess it left behind.The Bay City, Mich. man had just boarded the plane to Miami when he noticed feces all over the floor and his seat. When he alerted the crew, he said they did little to nothing to help.“Actual feces and it was all over me. I sat in it and it was on the seat, on the floor, the seat in front. And I was literally in it,” said Matthew Meehan, Delta customer.The Bay City resident said via FaceTime about the very smelly, disgusting encounter he had on a recent Delta flight from Atlanta to Miami.He said upon sitting in his seat, he and the passenger next to him quickly discovered they had sat in feces. They both ran to the front of the plane to clean off and were shocked by what the flight attendant handed them.“I have no idea why I wasn’t offered something from the biohazard kit to clean myself up with. Instead, I was handed two paper towels and one of those miniature bottles of Bombay Sapphire, a bottle of gin to clean myself with,” Meehan said.Meehan said that was just the beginning. After cleaning what he could of the feces from his hands and clothing, he said flight attendants continued to board the plane and told him there was nothing more they could do. He exited the plane to speak with a manager and said this was her response:“At the very beginning, she sighed, ‘what’s your problem?’ And it was just you know, I had to step back for a moment and say, alright, keep your composer. You do not want to be one of these people you see on the news getting kicked off a plane. Meanwhile, I’m covered in feces,” Meehan said.Meehan said he and fellow passengers were forced to lay a blanket over the mess and endure the smell for the entire two-hour flight.Delta Air Lines released the following statement:“On Nov. 1, an aircraft operating flight 1949 from Atlanta to Miami was boarded before cleaning was completed following an incident from a previous flight with an ill service animal. Delta apologizes to customers impacted by the incident and has reached out to make it right, offering a refund and additional compensation. The safety and health of our customers and employees is our top priority, and we are conducting a full investigation while following up with the right teams to prevent this from happening again. Upon landing in Miami, the aircraft was taken out of service to be deep cleaned and disinfected.”Meehan acknowledged he was offered a refund, but more importantly he hopes this incident forces Delta to look at its current policies.Meehan also said he has been contacted by dozens of lawyers since the incident, wanting to take on the case. 2709

A survivor of the Oct. 1, 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas is using her experience to produce a documentary highlighting the mass shooting epidemic in the United States.Jenna Cook from California was at the Route 91 Harvest Festival with her family when they heard gunshots. They initially thought they were fireworks until they realized people were being shot.As Cook ran for her life, she also starting recording on her phone. Her thinking was that if she didn't make it, she at least wanted to capture what was going on. "It was fight or flight," she said. "How do I get out of this and how do I make sure somebody remembers what happens to me?"She still hasn't been back to Las Vegas since the shooting and says she was also shaken by the other mass shootings in Texas and then Florida that have happened since.It's what inspired the public health worker to become a film producer. She's now working on a project called "When Prayers Aren't Enough." It's a documentary that explores the epidemic of mass shootings with the goal of making sure they never happen again.Cook doesn't claim to have to answers, but plans on addressing the topic by traveling the U.S. and Canada interviewing survivors of the Las Vegas shooting and other mass shootings and give those survivors a platform.Cook says while she supported the March For Our Lives, she doesn't want to put her own political views into the documentary. "I have to be the referee and make sure that everyone's represented and that everybody has their voices heard," she says.She says while many survivors support gun restrictions, including banning bump stocks, and tighter background checks, she's also met other survivors who are adamantly pro-gun.But what unites them is a desire to see mass shootings stop, hence the title "When Prayers Aren't Enough."Right now, all her interviewees have been survivors from Southern California. They've created a GoFundMe page with a goal of ,000 for the project. Right now they have ,000 and plan to do more interviews. Their funding mostly goes to travel and film crews.For more information, to watch their trailer, and support their project, click?here. 2235

A new White House-backed ad campaign aims to encourage people who are unemployed or unhappy in their jobs or careers to “find something new.” The campaign's opening ad for Tuesday's roll out features ordinary people sharing their stories. A companion website, FindSomethingNew.org, provides links to training and other resources. The Trump administration has long emphasized skills-based job and vocational training, arguing that many jobs don't require a college degree. A Michigan couple faced discrimination due to their sexual orientation, but because of the state's laws, it’s legal. They’re sharing their story because of a new national campaign called Beyond I Do.The campaign highlights states that are legally allowed to discriminate due to sexual orientation, for things like employment, housing and social services, doctors visits or dining at a restaurant.Jami and Krista Contreras are a couple from Oak Park, Michigan. Three years ago, they became new parents and brought their six-day-old newborn to a local pediatrician, but they were denied care. "Your doctor prayed on it and decided she won't see you all today,” Krista Contreras claims one employee at the doctor's office said.The couple was floored. They said they had personally experienced discrimination for their sexual orientation, but they never though it would directly carry over to their newborn in this way.“We spoke to other people and they would say well they can’t do that… that’s not legal and we looked into it and it was legal,” Jami Contreras said.According to the Beyond I Do campaign, 31 states including Michigan don’t have protections for this kind of discrimination. “It was horrifying and humiliating and we just kept thinking god she's 6 days old and she’s already experiencing discrimination,” said Krista.  1358
