(KGTV) — California updated its reopening guidance this week to allow all personal care services to open with indoor modifications during the pandemic. The updated guidance allows personal care services including:Esthetic and skin care servicesElectrology servicesNail servicesBody art professionals, tattoo parlors, and piercing shopsMassage services (in non-healthcare settings)(California's reopening guidance and restrictions for these businesses can be found here.)The services may reopen in counties, including those listed in the state's first reopening tier (widespread/purple), with indoor modifications that "create a lower risk environment for employees and the public," according to a state release.RELATED: California theme park leaders call reopening guidance unreasonableThe California Department of Public Health says evidence has shown that the risk in the newly added businesses can be "sufficiently mitigated with modifications to allow those services to resume.""As parts of the world and much of this nation are experiencing another wave of COVID-19 cases, it’s more important than ever we take this disease seriously," said Dr. Erica Pan, Interim State Public Health Officer. “Our Blueprint for a Safer Economy is driven by science to keep the risk of COVID-19 transmission low in order to help keep Californians safe while allowing for a safer reopening of our activities. Our approach and pace intend to avoid the difficulties that result from repeatedly opening and shutting down economic activity and tries to balance the level of a myriad of activities and economic areas that are important to all of us. The most important things all Californians can do to reduce COVID-19 transmission are masking, keeping physical distance and avoiding mixing when possible.”The update was announced a day prior to the state releasing reopening guidance for theme parks to resume operations for certain tiers during the pandemic. 1949
(KGTV) - Dramatic video shows how a plane crash and rescue of the pilot and passenger unfolded off the coast of Northern California. David Lesh purchased his Beechcraft Bonanza a few weeks ago and asked a fellow pilot to record aerial video from a second plane. “We were gonna go fly over the Golden Gate bridge, and do a whole bay tour... obviously didn't make it there,” Lesh said. During the flight, Lesh lost all power five miles off Half Moon Bay Harbor. “I would guess that we probably didn't have much more than maybe a minute or two from the time I figured something was wrong to the time we hit the water,” said Lesh. Lesh’s friend Owen Leipelt was piloting the second plane and watched as Lesh went down. “At one point I lost them. I had been circling and I couldn't see them anymore and David called me on the phone as he was bobbing in the water and he turned me around and he guided me right to where he was,” said Leipelt. Lesh and his passenger Kayla climbed on the wing, eventually bobbing in the ocean after the plane sank. #NEW The last time David Lesh saw any part of his Beech Craft Bonanza. #abc7now pic.twitter.com/FA3rSKbSMb— Amanda del Castillo (@AmandaABC7) August 21, 2019 The U.S. Coast Guard was stationed in nearby El Granada and was guided to the crash site thanks to Leipelt’s position. “What was truly amazing about tonight was there was another aircraft on-scene that quickly responded, contacted air traffic control who knew to contact airborne Coast Guard asset and get us on-scene quickly,” said Lt. Commander Joshua Murphy. The Coast Guard team got Lesh and Kayla safely to Stanford Hospital for an evaluation.Lesh blamed bad gasoline for the engine failure, the Associated Press reported.KGO contributed to this report. 1765
(KGTV) - Is cell phone use causing young people to grow horns on the back of their skulls? That is unproven.Research published this month claims people are developing horn-like spikes on the back of their skulls because they're tilting their heads forward while looking at phones or tablets. But the New York Times points out the study lacked a control group. Two surgeons also told the paper that bone spurs from leaning forward aren't nearly as big a deal as possible disc disease, neck misalignment, and permanent changes in posture. This question was submitted to us by Alanna Cate from Sabre Springs. 609
