SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) — San Diego County will set up a coronavirus testing site at one of the world's busiest border crossings.County Supervisor Greg Cox said Wednesday the testing site will be at San Ysidro Port of Entry's PedWest crossing and serve about 200 tests daily. The testing site will be used for essential workers coming into the U.S. from Mexico and returning U.S. citizens. The walk-up site will also be appointment-free.PedWest serves pedestrians between Tijuana and San Diego. 504

SANTA ANA (CNS) - Orange County health officials reported a record number of coronavirus cases for the second consecutive day Sunday, announcing 434 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths.The numbers bring the county's totals to 10,422 cases and 269 deaths, and follow Saturday's reporting of 413 newly confirmed cases and 10 deaths.The Orange County Health Care Agency said last week was the county's deadliest since the pandemic began, with 55 COVID-19 deaths reported between June 13-19.The number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus rose from 321 to 332, with the number of patients in intensive care dropping from 135 to 133.A total of 212,113 people have been tested for the virus, with 789 tests reported Sunday.There have been 4,953 documented recoveries, according to the OCHCA.The total number of Orange County cases break down to 50% men and 50% women, but men account for 57% of the deaths.Santa Ana leads all county cities with 2,189 cases, followed by Anaheim with 2,007. Their high numbers are attributed to large populations and the presence of multiple nursing homes in both cities. Santa Ana and Anaheim are Orange County's two largest cities in population.Dr. Clayton Chau, the Health Care Agency director and interim chief health officer, said the "hot spots" of Santa Ana and Anaheim "keep me up at night" with concern. He said about two weeks ago, a task force was formed among officials with the county and both cities to discuss ways to tackle the rising case counts. 1528

(KGTV) — A dream trip to Africa for a Santee grandmother turned into a nightmare as she sat in a tour bus.Daughter-in-law Tomira Baca-Craig says Jeanette Craig, who retired four years ago, left for South Africa two weeks ago. Jeanette had been saving for the trip for more than a year.  It was her first trip to Africa.A few days after she arrived, she was on a tour bus headed to an animal preserve in the landlocked country of Lesotho when the bus overturned, killing three and injuring more than 12 tourists on board, including Jeanette."Because she had her seatbelt on, she wasn't thrown. She was trapped upside down. When the bus rolled, that's when she sustained all her injuries," said Baca-Craig.Jeanette was transported by helicopter to a clinic just outside Lesotho. She has since undergone several surgeries, suffering a fractured pelvis and leg, and torn ligaments in her legs."Now her pain is just shocking. There's a ton of breakthrough pain every time she shifts because the pelvis is bone on bone," said Baca-Craig.Jeanette is comforted by her daughter, who just arrived in South Africa. Loved ones say they just want to bring her home.  "We'd like to get an MRI and another CT scan to and rule out everything else because it was such a traumatic accident," said Baca-Craig. The problem? The trip insurance Jeanette purchased will only cover the original medical evacuation, not a second one to the U.S., which will cost upwards of 0,000. 1500

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the U.S. is considering a ban on Chinese social media apps, including the wildly popular short video platform TikTok.In an interview Monday with Fox News' Laura Ingraham, Pompeo said people should only download the app if they want their private information in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a company based in Beijing. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The amount of snow blanketing the Sierra Nevada is even larger than the 2017 snowpack that pulled the state out of a five-year drought, California water officials said.As of Thursday, the snowpack measured 202% of average after a barrage of storms throughout winter and spring, according to the Department of Water Resources.The wet weather has slowed but not stopped, with thunderstorms prompting flash flood warnings Sunday in the central and southern parts of the state.At this time last year, the snowpack measured 6% of average — making this year 33 times bigger than 2018, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.In 2017, the snowpack measured 190% of average.The snowpack supplies about 30 percent of state water needs.In the Tahoe Basin, Squaw Valley ski resort has seen so much snow it plans to keep its slopes open until least July 5. In May alone, Squaw recorded 37 inches (94 centimeters).State officials consider the most important snowpack measurement to be the one taken around April 1 because that's typically when storm activity subsides."And then after that the sun's highest position in the sky contributes to rapid melting.
