UNITED NATIONS, April 13 (Xinhua) -- China's UN envoy said Monday that the UN Security Council's response to the recent launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) should be cautious and proportionate.     "Our position on the reaction from the Security Council has been very clear and consistent. That is, the reaction from the Security Council has to be cautious and proportionate," Zhang Yesui told reporters after the council adopted a presidential statement on the DPRK launch. The UN Security Council on April 13, 2009 adopted a presidential statement on the recent launch by the Democratic People's Republic of KoreaIn the statement, the 15-member council "condemns" the April 5 launch by the DPRK and calls on all member states to "comply fully with their obligations under resolution 1718," adopted by the council in October 2006.     The statement also called for the early resumption of the six-party talks, which gather China, the DPRK, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the United States.     "The reaction from the Security Council should be conducive to maintaining peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia, and conducive to the six-party talks and also to the process of denuclearization in the Korean Peninsula, and it should be also conducive to safeguarding the international nonproliferation regime," he said.     "That's why we had been consistent in the Security Council adopting a presidential statement instead of a resolution with new sanctions," he said.     Zhang called on all the parties concerned to work together to maintain peace and stability in the region, promote the six-party talks and push forward denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese business delegation inked trade deals worth more than 300 million U.S. dollars with Swiss companies on Thursday, ending the second leg of their four-state procurement tour in Europe.     The agreements covered products ranging from software to electric equipments and metals, which meet China's domestic needs, according to Chinese trade officials.     Among those agreements, Switzerland's ABB, a global leader in power and automation technologies, signed a letter of intent for the supply of generator circuit breakers to China Nuclear Power Engineering Company.     Switzerland's Glencore, one of the world's largest suppliers of a wide range of commodities and raw materials to industrial consumers, also signed a deal with Chinalco, the world's second largest alumina producer and the third largest primary aluminum producer.     Holcim, one of the world's leading suppliers of cement and aggregates based in Switzerland, deepened its partnership with China's Huaxin Cement Company (HCC). They signed a frame agreement for technical service, technology and new equipment supplies covering the next two years.     Holcim is already the single largest shareholder in HCC, holding a stake of 39.9 percent of the Chinese firm.     "HCC with Holcim's support will continue to strengthen and extend its leading role as a modern cement producer in China," the two companies said in a statement. BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Jia Qinglin met visiting Taiwan journalists here Thursday, expecting media to bridge the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.     Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), urged media on both sides to improve cooperation and exchanges as a bridge between people across the Strait.     Their cooperation will help create a favorable environment for cross-Straits exchanges and encourage people on both sides to work for peaceful development, he said, when meeting with journalists from the Taiwan-based United Daily News (UDN) headed by Duncan Wang, chief executive officer (CEO) of UDN Group.     Jia appreciated the efforts UDN has made to improve relations and promote cooperation across the Strait.     The two sides of the Strait have seen favorable interaction since last year, while the relations headed for a peaceful development, he said.
