Grand jury matters in the federal court system are typically kept secret, unless a witness decides to speak about the subpoenas they receive or their experience testifying.However, the case has still been one of the most secretive in years to progress through the court system.It apparently included two face-offs between special counsel office prosecutors and the unnamed company's private attorneys.After losing at the trial level, the DC Circuit Court closed a floor of the courthouse during appellate arguments to keep the identities of the arguing attorneys completely under wraps.The company has kept nearly all its filings secret -- with the exception of a log of when it submits information to the appeals courts.Though the Supreme Court allows for cases like this to be secret in their early requests, the high court has never heard a known case where all parties and arguments stayed confidential. 1907

The Transportation Security Administration released tips on Thursday to help travelers traverse through security and make it to their destination on time during the busy Thanksgiving holiday. The TSA said it expects to screen 26.8 million air passengers and crew members from Nov. 22 through Dec. 2, a 4 percent increase over 2018. Shoe laces and zip-up boots take extra time to remove and put back on. Wearing slip-ons just saves you time. But admittedly, it’s fun to watch someone else hop around on one foot as they try to remove a boot.Place your electronic carving knife (or your non-electric knife) in your checked bag. Should be a no-brainer, wouldn’t you think?Pack smart. Don’t bring along any prohibited items. Three members of a white supremacist group were sentenced to prison Friday for kicking, choking and punching multiple people during the 2017 "United the Right" rally in Charlottesville and other rallies in California.Benjamin Daley, 26, was sentenced to 37 months in prison; 25-year-old Thomas Gillen was sentenced to 33 months; and Michael Miselis, 30, was sentenced to 27 months, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Virginia said in statement.The three were members of the California-based militant white supremacist organization "Rise Above Movement." The group no longer exists, according to the attorney's office.A fourth defendant, Cole Evan White, will be sentenced at a later date, the attorney's office said."These defendants, motivated by hateful ideology, incited and committed acts of violence in Charlottesville, as well at other purported political rallies in California," U.S. Attorney Thomas T. The United States and South Korea are expected to announce in the coming days that annual military exercises between the two nations are to be scaled back, according to a US defense official.The large-scale military exercises, known as Foal Eagle and Key Resolve, had been scheduled for this spring but according to the official, they will be scaled down to a small unit level and could involve virtual training.Defense officials say they can achieve the necessary training goals through the scaled-back exercises.The announcement is expected to come soon after President Donald Trump walked away from negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Vietnam.The US has already suspended several larger military exercises as part of an effort to ease tensions with North Korea following the last year's Singapore summit between the two leaders.In a news conference following last June's summit Trump called the exercises "provocative," stating, "It's inappropriate to be having war games."Trump has also questioned the usefulness of the exercises, citing the disproportionate share of the cost borne by the US.Former Defense Secretary James Mattis told reporters last November that the 2019 version of the Foal Eagle exercise was being "reorganized a bit" to keep from "being harmful to diplomacy."On Friday Defense Department officials refused to comment publicly about the status of the joint exercises but said they will proceed unless Trump specifically orders them canceled. "The (US-South Korean) alliance remains ironclad," said Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Dave Eastburn, when asked about the exercises. Tucson will not become Arizona's first sanctuary city after voters rejected Prop 205 Tuesday night.The ballot measure was soundly rejected by 71.4 percent of voters in Tucson, according to unofficial election results released by the city, with all precincts reporting. Some remaining ballots will be counted in the coming days.The group Tucson Families Free and Together spearheaded the ballot initiative earlier this year, collecting thousands of signatures in the city.
