Police in Troy, Michigan said a man armed with knives was shot and killed after charging at officers on Monday morning.According to police, they were called to the home on Saddle Brook for a domestic situation just after 7 a.m. on Monday.Officers followed the suspect, a 23-year-old man, and when he noticed officers, he started charging at them. Another officer in an unmarked car got out to distract the suspect, and then the suspect tried getting in an unmarked car.Police say he then turned toward the marked vehicle and started charging at the officer. The officer pulled out his taser and fired, but the taser was not effective and he kept charging toward officers.That's when the officer shot at the suspect several times, killing him.Police said it's been over 20 years since there was an officer-involved shooting in Troy. 849

OWEGO, N.Y. — A New York police officer is being hailed a hero after he saved the life of a man trapped for 10 hours in a car with no heat that was buried in snow.According to New York State Police, 58-year-old Kevin Kresen was driving during Wednesday's snowstorm when he ran his car off the road. A short time later, Kresen became trapped when a snowplow covered his car with four feet of snow. 404

Police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a skydiver in Zephyrhills, Florida.Management at Skydive City told Tampa-based WFTS, the skydiver was experienced and had a properly working parachute and reserve parachute. "(The skydiver) hit the ground at full speed and were killed on impact, instantly," said General Manager TK Hayes. Hayes said neither the main parachute or reserve were pulled. It was the second to last jump of the night. The skydiver broke away from a group dive, landing at the edge of the 100-acre property. "It's definitely a mystery," said Hayes. "We've had a preliminary investigation with the detectives out there and looked at the equipment, we can't see anything particularly wrong with it."Hayes said the skydiver was not using an automatic activation device, which deploys the parachute at 700 feet if still in free-fall. That piece of equipment is not required for licensed skydivers. "It's just a sad day for the community, there's nothing we can do about that now that that's happened other than hopefully we learned something from it," he said. Skydive City sees about 70,000 jumps per year. According to Hayes, it has been a couple years since they've experienced a fatal jump. At this time, police have not released the skydiver's name, pending next of kin notification.  1424

People all across San Diego are breaking the law to ease parking problems in congested neighborhoods. They're either painting over red curbs to add spaces, or they're adding red paint to the curbs near their driveways to keep people from blocking them in.Either way, it's illegal and the city deals with hundreds of complaints each year on its Get it Done website and app. City officials say it's most common in neighborhoods like Hillcrest, Pacific Beach and North Park, where the population is dense, and parking spots are at a premium.San Diego Municipal Code 82.14 says "No person shall paint or otherwise mark any curb, sidewalk or street surface without first complying with the requirements of this code." Although city officials say it's tough to enforce because it's hard to prove who painted the curb. The San Diego Police Department wasn't able to provide 10News with details on what the penalties could be.An SDPD Spokesman did say anyone who gets a ticket for parking in a red zone that may be illegal can appeal the citation here.In 2017, the city dealt with 222 reports of illegally painted curbs on the Get it Done website. They try to respond to all of them. Already in 2018, there have been more than a dozen.
