PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. – Two sets of sisters graduated Marine Corps recruit training together, further strengthening their bonds. The Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in Parris Island, South Carolina, says one set includes Virginia sisters Ashley and Amber Valentine, while the other is comprised of Maria, Vanessa and Melissa Placido Jaramillo, who grew up in Nevada.According to MCRD, the Valentine sisters joined shortly after their grandfather passed away and wanted to carry on his legacy in the U.S. armed services.Ashley, 19, and Amber, 22, say having each other to rely on through training helped during some of their highest highs and lowest lows.“I went through a moment during first phase where I received some bad news in a letter, and she was there to be a shoulder for me to lean on,” Amber said in a press release posted to MCRD’s Facebook page. However, the Valentines won’t be attending combat training together, because Ashley suffered a hip fracture prior to graduation and must heal. After combat training, Amber plans to serve in the communications field and Ashley will be certified as a motor transportation operator. As for the Placido Jaramillo family, Maria, Vanessa and Melissa made a pact to join the military together when they were young children, according to MCRD. Melissa and Vanessa, both 22, are identical twins. Maria is a year younger than them at age 21.During recruit training, Melissa says the sisters succeeded thanks to friendly competition and daily positive affirmation.MCRD says the three sisters have yet to find out what military occupational specialty they will be assigned but are looking forward to what the Marine Corps has in store for them. All three plan to complete their education, though. 1748

OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - Want to save money on your next international flight? Tijuana’s airport can be a cost-cutting alternative to San Diego’s Lindbergh Field via the Cross Border Express (CBX). WHAT TO KNOW The nearly 400-foot-long CBX pedestrian bridge starts in Otay Mesa, east of Brown Field, and connects the United States with Aeropuerto Internacional de Tijuana. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agents monitor the CBX. Passengers must have a plane ticket and passport to use the CBX. Only travelers may use the bridge; the CBX is not an open border entry. There is a fee to use the CBX, which can be purchased online or on-site. Concessions, including Starbucks, are available at the CBX. In addition to flights throughout Mexico, there are two non-stop flights available to China. SAVING MONEYFlights from Tijuana can be up to 40 percent cheaper than leaving from the U.S., according to CBX officials. Traveling within Mexico cuts down on airline fees and taxes.HOW TO GET THERE Travelers can drive to Otay Mesa and park in one of the CBX secured lots, which CBX officials say are well-lit and secured 24 hours a day. Daily parking rates start at . The CBX is also serviced by rideshare companies and taxi services. PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — A divided U.S. appeals court has ruled that the Trump administration can end humanitarian protections that have allowed hundreds of thousands of people from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Haiti and Sudan to remain in the United States. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday lifted a preliminary injunction that had blocked the government from ending Temporary Protected Status for people from those four countries. Since 1990, the policy has granted temporary legal status to people from countries affected by natural disasters and civil conflict. The legal status is often extended, but the Trump administration decided to end it for several countries. 688
