EAST COUNTY (CNS) - One vehicle overturned and another one ended up in a ditch in a collision today in Jacumba Hot Springs, the California Highway Patrol said.The two-car collision happened at 12:22 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 8 near Carrizo Gorge Road, the CHP said.A gray Chevy Silverado and a black Lexus sedan collided and landed in the center divider. The Silverado overturned but all of the occupants got out of the vehicle, according to a CHP incident log.Tow trucks were called to the scene. There was no immediate information on the condition of people in both vehicles.A CHP dispatcher said two officers were investigating the accident and still at the scene as of 1:15 p.m. 693
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Dozens of dogs and cats landed in El Cajon today, after a flight from Louisiana to Gillespie Field. In July, rescue partners at Acadiana Animal Aid in Lafayette, LA helped rescue animals following floods in the area. This month, they've teamed up with the Wings of Rescue to help overcrowded shelters. The 75 to 90 animals, mostly puppies will go to The Rescued Dog, Labradors and Friends Rescue, San Diego Humane Society, and the Rancho Coastal Humane Society. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a man who reportedly robbed a US Bank in El Cajon Monday. According to the FBI, the incident happened just after 3 p.m. at the US Bank on the 2700 block of Navajo Road. The robber reportedly approached a teller and made a verbal demand for money. After receiving the cash, the man fled the scene on foot. The robber is described as a white or Hispanic man with olive skin and grey hair who is believed to be in his 30s or 40s. He’s also six feet, one inch tall with a thin build. The man was last seen wearing a grey and white “trucker style” hat, long sleeved grey sweatshirt and baggy blue jeans. (KGTV) — The Dehesa School District Board voted 4-0 Friday afternoon to place their superintendent on paid administrative leave amid a fraud investigation.Earlier this week, the San Diego District Attorney’s Office charged Superintendent Nancy Hauer with one count of misappropriating public funds.She was one of 11 people charged in a statewide scheme, in which the DA says two men siphoned more than million in state money through a network of 19 charter schools.“The defendants sought out small school districts with limited experience in oversight and proposed they authorize online charter schools to earn additional public funds in the form of oversight fees,” the DA’s Office wrote in a summary of the charges.At Friday’s special Dehesa School District Board meeting, the board spent an hour and a half in closed session with legal counsel discussing Hauer’s employment.Board President, Cindy White refused an interview with 10News.On the dais, Board Vice President Karl Backer told the audience, “we have initiated new legal council to peel apart the charter operations to make sure sound practices and legal compliance is met.” 1165
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — Residents were asked to shelter in place in an East County neighborhood due to a gas leak Thursday.The leak was reported at Mollison Ave. and Pear St. just before 12 p.m., according to Heartland Fire Rescue.Officials said the leak was coming from a home's natural gas line and crews would dig under the street to plug the break.Two homes were evacuated. Other nearby residents in the area were also asked to shelter in place and not to run their vehicles as crews worked to fix the break.Mollison Ave. was closed from Greenfield Dr. to Bradley Ave. El Cajon Police and SDG&E crews were also on scene. 669
