ASTANA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Thursday that China will maintain contact with Iran and conduct mutually beneficial cooperation with the country.     The Chinese premier made the remark at a meeting with Parviz Davoodi, first vice president of Iran, on the sidelines of the 7thprime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.     Iran is an observer of the SCO. Wen spoke highly of the traditional friendship between the peoples of China and Iran.     The premier said the Chinese side is willing to expand cooperation with Iran in compliance with the UN charter and on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, which will not only bring benefits for the two peoples but also be conducive to regional peace and stability.     Davoodi congratulated China on the success of the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics.     He said Iran-China relations are based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and that Iran hopes to enhance cooperation with China in fields such as politics, trade and economy.     Davoodi outlined the progress of the Iranian nuclear issue, saying Iran is willing to solve the issue through negotiation.     Wen said China believes Iran, a contracting state of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, has the right to peaceful use of nuclear energy.     Meanwhile, China calls for the maintenance of the international nuclear non-proliferation system, and thinks Iran's nuclear issue should be solved peacefully through dialogue and negotiation, Wen said.     The Chinese premier expressed the hope that Iran will continue to show flexibility on the nuclear issue, actively address concerns of the international community, and restore negotiations on the issue as soon as possible.     He said China will keep on playing a constructive role in promoting the appropriate settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue.     Wen arrived here Wednesday evening on a three-day official visit to Kazakhstan to attend the 7th prime ministers' meeting of SCO member countries.     The SCO, a regional organization founded in June 2001, comprises China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, with Mongolia, India, Iran and Pakistan holding observer status.

BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, concluded its week-long meeting on Saturday, with approval of the amendments of the Earthquake Prevention Law and the Patent Law.     President Hu Jintao has signed on the two amendments for them to take effect.     The session was presided by Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau.     A resolution was adopted at the meeting, deciding that the Second Session of the Eleventh NPC will be inaugurated in Beijing on March 5, 2009. BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese emergency chartered flights are expected to fly back home almost all the more than 3,000 mainland tourists stuck in riot-hit Thailand by Dec. 1. Four Chinese mainland carriers have sent nine planes to retrieve the tourists after Bangkok's international airport closed because of a protest.     Some 2,000 tourists had returned back home by noon, and another more than 800 would fly back late Sunday night or early Monday morning, according to the airlines. A China Eastern Airbus-300 arrives at the Utapao Airport near Pattaya, about 150 km east of Bangkok, capital of Thailand, Nov. 29, 2008. Chinese aviation authorities were sending 5 planes on Saturday to Thailand to bring home the remaining stranded Chinese tourists after the closure of the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok    China Southern Airlines, the nation's largest carrier by fleet size, said late Sunday night it will sent another plane to take back the remaining tourists on Monday.     Around 246 passengers landed in Shanghai at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday. This was the first return flight from Thailand, though delayed for several hours because of unstable situation at the airport.
