The strain of E. coli causing the current outbreak in romaine lettuce has been found in a reservoir on a farm in Santa Barbara County, California, the US Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday.The agencies are continuing to investigate other possible sources, and the CDC still advises consumers not to eat romaine lettuce grown in California's Monterey, San Benito and Santa Barbara counties until investigations are complete."We cannot say how many cases are linked to this specific farm at this time," Ian Williams, chief of the CDC's outbreak response and prevention branch, said at a press briefing. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, however, were among the organizations to contribute to the fund.“One thing I've learned studying the history of pandemics is that they create a surprising dynamic when it comes to self-interest and altruism,” Bill Gates said. “Pandemics are rare cases where a country’s instinct to help itself is tightly aligned with its instinct to help others. The Supreme Court granted Tuesday a Trump administration request to continue to bar most refugees under its travel ban.Without comment, the court blocked a federal appeals court ruling from last week that would have exempted refugees who have a contractual commitment from resettlement organizations from the travel ban while the justices consider its legality. The ruling could impact roughly 24,000 people.The travel ban bars certain people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the US.The issue concerning the scope of the travel ban has been ricocheting through the courts since the spring when the Supreme Court allowed Trump's ban to go into effect except for those with a "bona fide" relationship to the United States. The suspect in the shooting deaths of two people at Central Michigan University is in custody, police reported early Saturday. Police spent most of Friday searching for a 19-year-old person of interest after two people were shot and killed on the campus of Central Michigan University on Friday. Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit is reporting that the victims are the suspect's parents.James Eric Davis Jr. is the suspect in the deaths of his parents James Davis Sr. and his wife, Diva Davis. Davis Sr. is a part-time police officer in Illinois in Chicago. Police later confirmed the identities of the victims.  652
