GYEONGJU, South Korea, May 15 (Xinhua) -- China on Saturday called on related parties to keep calm, exercise restraint and appropriately handle Cheonan incident.Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made the remarks while meeting with his South Korean counterpart Yu Myung-hwan ahead of a trilateral foreign ministers' meeting of China, Japan and South Korea, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said.Yang said the sinking of the South Korean navy ship "Cheonan" is an unfortunate incident. Considering the current complicated and sensitive situation on the Korean Peninsula, China hopes all parties concerned should start from the stability and peace of the Korean Peninsula and the region, proceed from long-term interest, keep calm and exercise restraint to appropriately handle the Cheonan incident. As for what the Japanese side said during the two-way meeting between Yang and his Japanese counterpart Katsuya Okada that Chinese marine surveillance ships' enforcement activities on Japan 's scientific research ships east of "medium line" has damaged Japan's sovereignty and interests, Yang stressed that China remains clear and consistent position on the East China Sea issues. He said China has never recognized the so-called "medium line" proposed unilaterally by Japan, noting that the Japanese side has no right to adopt unilateral actions in the disputed sea, according to the spokesman. The spokesman said the two sides agreed to calmly deal with related issues to avoid worsening the situation and affecting the bilateral ties.Regarding to what the Japanese side mentioned during the meeting that its surveillance actions on the Chinese Navy's recent training in East China sea are in line with the International Law, describing the Chinese side's actions as "dangerous", Yang reaffirmed that the Chinese Navy are conducting normal training, which poses no threat to any country.Yang hoped that the two countries' defense authorities could enhance mutual trust by further strengthening exchanges and communications, so as to prevent misunderstanding and misjudgment, according to the spokesman.

WASHINGTON, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said Monday that China would firmly stick to the path of reforming its currency exchange rate formation mechanism based on its own economic and social development needs.Hu said detailed measures for reform should be considered in the context of the world's economic situation, its development and changes, as well as China's economic conditions."RMB appreciation would neither balance Sino-U.S. trade nor solve the unemployment problem in the United States," Hu told U.S. President Barack Obama.Chinese President Hu Jintao (L) meets with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington April 12, 2010. President Hu Jintao arrived in Washington on Monday to attend the Nuclear Security Summit slated for April 12-13.The Chinese leader said his country does not intend to pursue a trade surplus over the United States.China would like to take additional measures to increase imports from the United States, Hu said, urging the United States to loosen its export control over high-tech products so that exports to China could be increased. He expressed the hope that trade frictions between the two countries can be solved through negotiations so that Sino-U.S. economic and trade cooperation can be maintained.President Hu also said the advancement of Sino-U.S. economic and trade ties, an important part of the two countries' relations, would benefit not only China, but also the United States, as well as the world's economic development.

BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Indian Foreign Minister Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna said here Tuesday that a strong and stable relationship between India and China has an impact on the entire world."As India and China manage their domestic priorities well, it has huge implications for global prosperity," Krishna made the remarks in his speech entitled "India and China in the 21st Century" at the China Institute of International Studies. The two countries "are raising the living standard of almost one-third of humanity," he said.In the past two decades, India and China have impacted significantly on global per-capita income, longevity and human development, said Krishna, there is much that can be gained through close cooperation.Facing challenges of urbanization, resource consumption, food and energy security, China and India can exchange best practices to benefit each other, the foreign minister said.He said "considerable scope" exists for joint projects in a huge infrastructure demand in India, covering sectors like power, roads, rail and telecommunication. On the Chinese side, the outsourcing of IT by state enterprises has only started recently. There is a potential waiting to be tapped, which would happen only by connecting Chinese users to Indian providers. As a reshaping of the global architecture is underway, evident in new groupings like the G20, BRIC, BASIC and the East Asia Summit, Krishna said as developing societies, India-China convergence is manifest on issues like climate change and global trade rules."We have to accept that there will be outstanding issues between the two countries even as our relationship forges ahead. The true test of our maturity is how well we handle our problems," said Krishna.A number of dialogues and forums already exist between India and China where both sides discuss bilateral, regional and global political issues, including boundary question, trade matters and water management."Regular meetings lead to better communication, more understanding and confidence," said Krishna, encouraging an "intensive and sustained engagement" between the two systems. As to media speculation that India and China have a "competitive" relationship, Krishna said it is up to the two countries to disprove such scenarios by "concrete examples of cooperation".As this year celebrates the 60th anniversary of China-India diplomatic ties, Krishna told a reception later Tuesday that his country would take the opportunity to renew cooperation, engagement and understanding between the two peoples.
