The White House announced Tuesday that official public tours of the complex will resume September 12, nearly six months after tours were suspended during the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.While the White House resumes tours, a number of social distancing guidelines will be implemented, including mandatory face coverings for all visitors over the age of 2. Tours will only operate two days a week, Friday and Saturday, from 8 to 11 a.m. Capacity for the tours will be at 18%.On a given year, the White House welcomes over 1 million visitors to the complex each year. And even with the large number of tours, the demand for tours far exceeds the supply.The White House tours are generally held away from working areas of the White House.While the White House is resuming tours, a number of other capital-area facilities have remained closed to the public since March, including the US Capitol. The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces have detained a US citizen who had been fighting with ISIS in Syria, a US military official told CNN Thursday.The official added that it appeared that the American citizen surrendered to Kurdish elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces.A spokesperson for the US-led coalition fighting ISIS would not confirm that a US citizen was in the custody of the SDF, referring questions to the US State Department."We have seen those same reports and the SDF as our partner has taken an oath to make sure that any fighters that they capture that they maintain them and bring them to the proper authorities. In this case the proper authorities would be the equivalent of the department of state in the country," Col. Ryan Dillon told reporters at the Pentagon via a video conference from Baghdad."If this was a US citizen it would be the Department of State to find out the updates on that particular person," Dillon added.A State Department official told CNN that the department was aware of the reports but said that they "have no information to share at this time."The Justice Department and the FBI also declined to comment.The Daily Beast was first to report that a US citizen had been detained by the SDF.This isn't the first US citizen fighting for ISIS to be detained by US allies in the region. The Sinaloa drug cartel, once run by one of the most wanted men in the world, El Chapo, has made its way to Northeast Ohio. It's a drug-trafficking ring moving large amounts of drugs from Mexico onto the streets."I don't think people understand how significant and embedded it is in Northeast Ohio," said Keith Martin, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of Cleveland's Drug Enforcement Administration. Authorities recently found a stash house in a Maple Heights neighborhood and another on Cleveland's west side. "The unfortunate fact is the drugs on our streets come from somewhere. Coco plants don't grow in Cleveland. Poppy plants don't grow in Parma, they come from somewhere else. They are, increasingly, in almost every case, the drugs are coming from Mexican cartels," said Justin Herdman, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. A three-year long DEA investigation, dubbed "Operation Loaded Deck," focused on taking down the local arm of the notorious Sinaloa cartel. During the investigation, authorities seized large quantities of heroin, cocaine and fentanyl, some of which were concealed in hidden compartments in cars. The drugs were moved across the U.S.-Mexican border and transported in these cars outfitted with secret traps. "Often times they'll go to great lengths, whether they've constructed a trap in a vehicle or a natural void in the vehicle," Major Gene Smith with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.Just as astonishing, Cartel members were hiding in plain sight the whole time, even taking in a Cavaliers game — courtside."These aren't street-level dealers, they were dealing in massive quantities and, in return, huge amounts of cash," Herdman said. By the end of the investigation, 29 kilos of cocaine, eight kilos of heroin, a kilo of fentanyl and four pounds of marijuana were seized, along with nearly 0,000, guns, vehicles and dozens of cell phones. Operation Loaded Deck ended with 19 people sent to federal prison for their roles in the drug trafficking organization. 2115

The US Office of Special Counsel announced Tuesday that White House aide Kellyanne Conway violated the Hatch Act on two occasions by "advocating for and against candidates" in last year's Alabama Senate special election.In a new report, the OSC special counsel, Henry Kerner, pointed to Conway's TV interviews conducted in her "official capacity" in November and December of last year. The agency said Conway "impermissibly mixed official government business with political views about candidates in the Alabama special election."One of the two interviews was on CNN's "New Day," and the second was on Fox News' "Fox & Friends."In a letter to President Donald Trump, Kerner said he is referring her violations for the President's "consideration of appropriate disciplinary action."The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.During the "Fox & Friends" interview November 20, Conway was introduced by the show's hosts as a "counselor to President Trump" and spoke from White House grounds.
