BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Tuesday spoke highly of the strategic security talks with Russia that helped to promote bilateral ties, pledging to further the bilateral strategic partnership of cooperation in the coming year.     The security talks, initiated in February 2005, served as a platform for the two states to enhance political trust and cooperation in various fields, especially in law-enforcement and security aspects. Chinese President Hu Jintao (R) meets with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 8, 2009Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev attended the fourth round of talks in Beijing early Tuesday.     They discussed bilateral ties, saying it witnessed a balanced, smooth and quality development this year, which marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and Russia.     They applauded the frequent high-level visits, improved strategic coordination, enhanced strategic mutual trust, and the expanding economic and humanitarian cooperation. China and Russia hold the fourth round of strategic security consultations in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 8, 2009. "The two sides believed that the strategic coordination between China and Russia played an important role in safeguarding the two states' strategic security interest, development, and the world peace and stability," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a press release.     The two sides pledged to further strengthen coordination in their strive to promote the reform on global governance mechanism, maintain close cooperation on major international and regional issues, enhance regional cooperation and preserve their common interest. They also discussed the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, Iran's nuclear program, the Group of 20, the reform of the United Nations, climate change, nuclear disarmament, the BRIC and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Chinese diplomatic sources said.     "The world is experiencing dramatic change and adjustment, which will offer new opportunities and challenges for the development of both China and Russia," Hu said during a 40-min meeting with Patrushev in the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing.     It will also raise new task and requirements for the development of the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation, Hu told the senior Russian security official.     China will work along with Russia, take the opportunities and enhance the all-round strategic coordination and substantial cooperation in various fields in a bid to lift bilateral ties into a new phase, Hu noted.     Hu proposed the two sides to tap the full potential of the strategic security talks so as to make further contribution to the development of bilateral ties.     Patrushev echoed Hu's remarks on world situation, adding that it is of great significance for Russia and China to speed up strategic coordination under the context of the global financial crisis.     The frequent exchange of high-level visits and cooperation in various fields fueled the development of bilateral ties, he said, vowing to further enhance cooperation with China in a bid to bolster bilateral ties.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Tuesday that China and the United States will start preparations as soon as possible for the second round of the China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) scheduled for next summer in Beijing.     China and the United States will continue implementing the agreements reached at the first round of the dialogue last July in Washington, Hu said in remarks to reporters after talks with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two leaders spoke positively during the talks of the importance of the strategic and economic dialogue mechanism in strengthening mutual trust and cooperation between the two nations, he said.     Both leaders believed that close high-level contacts and other dialogues and consultations at various levels are essential to the development of bilateral relations, said the Chinese president.     The two sides agreed to keep close communication through visits, phone calls, letters and meetings during multilateral events, Hu said.

MANILA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, and Philippines Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile pledged to boost cooperation between the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the Philippine Senate when they met here Thursday.     Jia, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said China-Philipines ties had witnessed healthy development since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1975.     "China and the Philippines share broad common interests," Jia said, highlighting the enhanced mutual political trust, booming economic and trade ties, frequent humanitarian and cultural exchanges and close coordination on international and regional issues. Jia Qinglin arrived in Manila on Nov. 19 for a two-day official goodwill visit to the Philippines    China appreciated the Philippine parliament's firm adherence to the one-China policy on the Taiwan issue, Jia noted.     He said China and the Philippines could further cooperate in fighting the global economic crisis and China would like to enhance cooperation with the Philippines in such sectors as trade, two-way investment, tourism, education and culture with the principle of equality and mutual benefit, he said.     Jia spoke highly of the close contact and exchange between the CPPCC and the Philippines Senate, pledging to step up exchanges and learn from each other to promote the social development of the two countries.     Enrile said the Philippines enjoyed great benefits from the friendly and cooperative ties with China.     He appreciated China's aid to the typhoon-hit areas of the Philippines and vowed to unswervingly stick to the one-China policy.     After their talks, Jia and Enrile witnessed the signing of several agreements on economic, education and disaster relief cooperation.     Jia arrived in Malina Thursday afternoon for a two-day official visit as guest of Enrile. He will also visit Peru, Ecuador and Brazil.

  

NANTONG, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The first Sino-American Dialogue on Rule of Law and Human Rights ended Sunday in Nantong, a city in east China's Jiangsu Province.     The two-day symposium was jointly organized by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development (CFHRD) and National Committee on United States-China Relations (NCUSCR) of the United States.     Representatives from China and the United States exchanged views on topics of government transparency, pretrial detention, labor disputes and lawyers' role.     Prof. Jerome Cohen of the New York University School of Law said the symposium was "a good exchange" and the U.S. delegation learned more about China.     "We talked about some sensitive issues with people we didn't know before. This is a big good start," Cohen told Xinhua.     "The dialogue is a sign of increasing exchanges between non-governmental organizations," Huang Mengfu, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and CFHRD chairman, addressed the opening ceremony on Saturday.     The symposium attracted more than 30 Chinese and U.S. law professionals and scholars.

  

BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here Thursday the peaceful and safe use of nuclear energy requires joint efforts of the international community. Li made the remarks when meeting with heads of some of the delegations attending the third meeting of ministerial level officials of the executive committee of the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership(GNEP) in Beijing.     Li said China is ready to deepen international cooperation in this respect by promoting mutual benefit and win-win of all parties. Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (2nd, R) meets heads of some of the delegations attending the third meeting of ministerial level officials of the executive committee of the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership(GNEP) in Beijing, capital of China, on Oct. 22, 2009    GNEP is an international organization aimed to accelerate development and use of clean fuel technology worldwide and reduce the risk of nuclear proliferation.     Li said GNEP provides a platform for relevant countries to carry out exchanges and cooperation. He expressed the wish that GNEP partners should adhere to the principle of equality and seeking common ground through consultation.     He hoped that the partners should reach consensus on the basis of thorough consultation so as to realize common development.     Li said nuclear energy is a quality, highly efficient clean energy. The peaceful use of nuclear energy is an important task for the human kind to achieve sustainable development.     As the most populated developing country in the world, China has made active effort to develop new energy, including nuclear energy, Li said.     This is conducive not only to improving standards of energy supply and meeting the demands for economic, social development and improvement of people's living standards, but also good for environment protection and harmony of energy and environment, Li said.     The GNEP ministerial meeting will be held in Beijing on Friday. Delegations from 42 countries and two international organizations will attend the meeting, including the International Atomic Energy Agency.
