INDIANAPOLIS -- A splash of color painted the streets of Vice President Mike Pence's hometown of Columbus, Indiana on Saturday as the town hosted its first-ever Pride Festival. The colorful event featured live music, food and even a drag competition. This small town festival made big news because hometown boy, Vice President Mike Pence is known for being a conservative Christian who signed the 2015 religious protections law that created a legal defense for businesses that objected to serving LGBTQ customers. Columbus High School senior Erin Bailey, 18, came up with the idea and helped bring it to life. In the last week, Pfizer has shipped more than 2.9 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine to locales throughout the US in an effort to get health care workers vaccinated amid a surge of cases nationwide.With Pfizer declaring the initial round of distribution a success, the company says it is awaiting instructions on where to ship its next batch of vaccines.“We have millions more doses sitting in our warehouse but, as of now, we have not received any shipment instructions for additional doses,” Pfizer said in a statement.Pfizer’s vaccine comes in two doses, which means those who have been vaccinated this week will be asked to return in three weeks to receive a booster. Distributing the vaccine is made more arduous due to the extremely cold temperatures required to store the vaccines.Pfizer has been working with UPS and FedEx on distributing vaccines from its warehouses. Pfizer has said that it plans on distributing up to 50 million vaccines doses globally by the end of the year.“Over the last several months, we have activated Pfizer’s extensive manufacturing network, including thousands of highly skilled workers in multiple locations. As a result, Pfizer is manufacturing and readying for release millions of doses each day, and that volume will grow over the coming weeks,” Pfizer said.As health care workers get vaccinated, the shots are slated to make their way to those living and working in assisted living facilities. Major pharmacy chains, such as CVS and Walgreens, are slated to help administer the vaccines to those in assisted living facilities.“With approximately 70 percent of the U.S. population living within three miles of a CVS Pharmacy, we’ll be easy to reach when a vaccine is authorized by the FDA and becomes available in retail settings,” Dr. Troyen Brennan, Chief Medical Officer, CVS Health, said last month. "Our pharmacists, nurse practitioners and pharmacy technicians have been an invaluable community resource since the pandemic began and are ready to play a critical role in the vaccination effort.”Joining the Pfizer vaccine is a similar shot by Moderna, which is in the process of receiving an emergency use authorization from the FDA. But for the past nine months the pandemic has kept that from happening.Everybody is taking a financial hit this year whether it's a music venue, music artist, even people on the audio/video side of things," said Jake Huber.Before the pandemic, local film maker Jake Huber and live venue owner Mike Angel launched the web TV series called 'Music in Transit' a way to highlight the Circle City's musicians as they perform live shows on IndyGo buses and bus stops."It's really that simple. We put bands on a bus and when it allows for it an audience too," said Angel.Season one was all about surprising new audiences. "You stop in your own tracks and you're like oh, what is this I'm experiencing right now? After a while every single act we had formed a crowd, and through that many acts have reached out to us saying thank you because I've gained a new audience. I've had people buy our record, just from these videos," Huber said.Season Two of Music in Transit will look a bit different. The mobile shows are socially distanced this time around, with a limited crowd. Huber and Angel are hoping season two will allow the world to still see Indianapolis musicians of multiple genre's, who, thanks to pandemic restrictions, could use all the exposure they can get."Hip hop, old country, indie rock, funk. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A U.S. senator from Indiana wants to make violence or attempted violence against police officers a federal crime.Sen. Mike Braun, R-Indiana, signed on to the Protect and Serve Act, which would make violence or attempted violence to local, state, and federal law enforcement officers a federal crime.The bill was introduced Thursday by Sen. Thom Tillis, R-NC.The act would make violators of serious bodily injury or attempted serious bodily injury subject to prison for up to 10 years. If the offense involves murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, or attempted kidnapping, the offender could receive a life sentence.“Criminals who target police officers should pay the highest penalty possible,” Braun said. “Our brave men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every day so we can live in safety, and the cowards who seek to harm them need to be sent a clear message: Target police, and you will pay.”The bill comes after two Los Angeles police officers were ambushed and shot over the weekend.The act has been endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police, Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, and the National Association of Police Organizations.A similar bill passed the House in 2018.This story was first reported by Matt McKinney at WRTV in Indianapolis, Indiana. 1320
