EL CAJON (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck and killed this morning by at least two vehicles on the Kumeyaay (8) Highway in El Cajon.The crash on the westbound freeway, east of Mollison Avenue, occurred at little before 3:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.One of the vehicles, possibly a four-door sedan, sustained major damage to its left side, the CHP said.A representative from the coroner's office was called to the scene at 4:58 a.m. 457
EL CAJON (KGTV) -- Authorities are working to clear a fuel spill Sunday afternoon after a small plane crashed landed onto a quiet El Cajon neighborhoodThe plane crashed sometime around 2 p.m. at 2nd Street and El Rey in El Cajon.The pilot was en route to Gillispie Field, a little more than a mile from where it crashed.Authorities say two people were on board the aircraft but suffered no injuries.There was a small fuel leak following the crash and the plane knocked down some wires when it crash landed. (KGTV) — El Cajon City Council voted Friday not to make any changes in how the city enforces the county's coronavirus public health orders.Thursday, Mayor Bill Wells called for the special meeting to discuss stopping El Cajon Police from enforcing public health measures around facial coverings and distancing.City Council leaders said the city would continue enforcing the rules as they have on a case-by-case basis, according to the mayor. So while police won't respond to complaints like who is or is not wearing a mask or whether a restaurant has too many people inside, they will focus on more egregious violations, like large parties or businesses being fully opened.RELATED: El Cajon Mayor calls for police to stop enforcing county COVID-19 measuresHowever, after California implemented new guidance on Friday that allows San Diego County to reopen several businesses indoors with modifications starting Monday, Wells said no major action by the city was needed.Thursday, Wells told ABC 10News that he understands that the county and state may continue to hand out fines or criminal charges on businesses despite the stance, but the mental health issues surrounding restrictions are too much."I don't enjoy taking a stand like this, this isn't going to be any fun. But I think my responsibility to the people are more important than my comfort," Wells, a mental health professional, said Thursday. "I want to emphasize I'm not telling people not to wear masks. I'm not telling people not to social distance. Disinformation is a problem the country has been dealing with since the past election, but trolls are now getting more specific and targeting communities of color, specifically Black communities.“Bad actors use real cultural issues and conversations happening in Black communities and other communities of African descent and start injecting disinformation and false ideals,” said Jessica Ann Mitchell Aiwuyor, founder of the National Black Cultural Information Trust.A lot of the issues brought up by “bad actors” include talks of reparations and other conversations about slavery.These are real issues that need attention, but trolls will include false information. This ends up causing friction within Black communities and dissuades people from voting.The National Black Cultural Information Trust has made it a goal to counteract this type of disinformation.“So, what we are doing is putting out public service announcements, we are holding teach-ins, we are hosting webinars, we're doing interviews with scholars and activists so they can answer these questions directly,” said Aiwuyor.The group will also use tools to show if accounts have troll-like behavior.It also plans on building coalitions with Black immigrants and Latinos. 1246
