VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the San Diego Sheriff's Department need your help identifying the man responsible for an attempted bank robbery on the 1700 block of University Drive. The man entered the Bank of America on Thursday around 1:30 p.m., pulling his gray, hooded sweatshirt over his head he approached the teller and handed over a note demanding money. The robber was denied money and departed the bank on foot. The investigation indicates the man may have used the “Sprinter” train to escape from the area. VISTA (CNS) - A man who fired a BB gun at an Oceanside business that had put up a sign supporting the Black Lives Matter movement pleaded guilty today to charges of violating civil rights by damaging property and vandalism.Steve Soto, 23, of Carlsbad, is slated to be sentenced Sept. 28 to one year in county jail stemming from the June 4 shooting that shattered a window at Bliss Tea & Treats.Oceanside police Sgt. John McKean said Soto drove by the business, then fired a BB gun out the window of his vehicle.The business had a sign in the window at the time that read: "Black owned, we stand with you," McKean said.The sergeant said surveillance video helped detectives identify the vehicle used in the crime, leading to Soto's arrest on July 15.He also pleaded guilty to an assault charge related to a May 28 incident involving a male victim and a misdemeanor vandalism count related to an unspecified July 4 incident.He was facing a hate crime allegation stemming from the Bliss Tea & Treats shooting and other misdemeanor charges of discharging a BB gun in a grossly negligent manner stemming from unspecified incidents occurring in June and July, but those counts were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. 1232

Walmart has announced that it will no longer keep "multicultural hair care and beauty products" behind lock and key.The announcement comes as customers raised concerns about the practice.In a statement to E.W. Scripps, the company said about a dozen of its 4,700 stores nationwide placed the products in locked cases.“As a retailer serving millions of customers every day from diverse backgrounds, Walmart does not tolerate discrimination of any kind," the company said in a statement. "Like other retailers, the cases were put in place to deter shoplifters from some products such as electronics, automotive, cosmetics, and other personal care products."According to USA Today, Walmart previously stated that the decision about locking up products came down to individual store managers before the reversal amidst George Floyd protests.“We’re sensitive to the issue and understand the concerns raised by our customers and members of the community and have made the decision to discontinue placing multicultural hair care and beauty products in locked cases," the company said in the statement. 1102

VIENNA — Austrian authorities say at least one gunman, shooting apparently at random in a popular Vienna nightlife area hours before a coronavirus lockdown took effect, killed four people in an Islamic extremist attack. They said Tuesday that the suspect, who was shot and killed by police, was a young Austrian-North Macedonian dual citizen who had a previous terror conviction for attempting to join the Islamic State extremist group in Syria.Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said two men and two women died from their injuries in the attack Monday evening. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A backyard workshop in Vista caught fire Sunday afternoon, according to Vista Fire officials. Neighbors said they saw thick black smoke towering into the sky and heard almost a dozen explosions.Neighbor John Ploetz said it sounded, "like a bomb, people up the street heard it.""It takes a minute you know, your brain goes oh it's probably fine, or he's welding you know and then I see there's flames, and no firemen here, and the fence is on fire, I better call 9-1-1," Ploetz said he grabbed his garden hose and worked to contain the fire. He wet down nearby foliage and put out small spot fires on the outside of the fence.Fire officials said the fire started around 12:32 p.m. and arrived at the home in the 1000 block of Ora Avo Drive in minutes. Ploetz said what he did was something anyone would do and he was concerned the fire would spread to other homes nearby. He was shocked when a pine tree burned up in seconds, "it just whoosh! Went up like a torch, it was loud, that was before the firemen got here."The workshop contained propane tanks, and tools for metal art that the homeowner creates as a hobby. The family was at church when the fire started and were thankful no one was hurt. Among the valuables they lost were three boats and a motor home.Firefighters are still investigating the cause. 1340
