San Diegans will soon have a new, and much more convenient way, to sell their homes.With a few taps on their computers or phones, they could get an all-cash offer from real-estate tracker Zillow for their property.The program, called Zillow Offers, adds speed, convenience and certainty to a process that often requires patience, home staging, visits from complete strangers, and frustration over transactions falling through."What we're trying to do is help homeowners solve one of the biggest problems they have," said Jeremy Wacksman, President of Zillow. "If you're selling and buying at the same time, trying to get all that done and project managing that even with the help of a great agent is hard."Zillow plans to launch the program in San Diego in early 2020. Homeowners would answer a few questions about their property online, getting an initial offer. If interested, they can arrange for an in-home inspection. A day or two after that, they'll get a formal cash offer they can consider. But that certainty comes at a price. Zillow makes its offer based on a variety of factors, including how long they believe they will have to hold the property and what they can sell it for. The company also deducts the costs of any repairs it deems necessary, with no room for negotiation. Typically, their offer comes with a 7 percent fee, which is 1 to 2 percent more than the average commission.Mark Goldman, a loan officer for C-2 Financial, said Zillow's offer likely comes with a cost. "For somebody who needs to do a fast transaction, it might be a suitable option, but you're not going to get top dollar for your house if you're going to do that," he said. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Combat veterans from the Navy and Marines were among possible jurors Monday in the trial of a decorated Navy SEAL charged with killing an Islamic State prisoner in his care in Iraq.All but one of the potential jurors in the court-martial of Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher had served in a combat zone and all but two were veterans of conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.The trial of Gallagher follows months of turmoil in one of the Navy's most prominent war crimes cases.The lead prosecutor was removed from the case earlier this month for tracking the defense team's emails and President Donald Trump has suggested he may pardon Gallagher.Gallagher has pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder in the killing of the prisoner in his care and attempted murder in the shootings of two civilians in Iraq in 2017. Gallagher says disgruntled platoon mates fabricated the allegations because they didn't like his tough leadership.The seven Marines and five sailors were seated in the jury box, given copies of the charges and asked a series of questions about the case.Each said they thought it possible that Navy SEALs could lie and that they could turn in a comrade on false allegations.They also said they could convict someone in the killing of a member of the Islamic State and in the case where no body was recovered. The prisoner's corpse was never found.If Gallagher is convicted, the panelists said they would consider post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury at sentencing, if relevant, along with his military record.Five said they had personally faced the enemy and five had experience with detainees. SAN DIEGO — A University City rabbi says a teenager on a bicycle hit him over the head and yelled a racial slur Saturday, steps from his synagogue.Rabbi Yonatan Halevy, of the Shiviti Congregation, says this was the latest in a series of incidents by a group of teenagers targeting his congregation that has increasingly escalated. "Everyday they come by here, taunt us, throwing bottles at us, sitting on our roof blasting music, and then breaking a window to my van," Halevy said. "Last but not least, what happened on Saturday."Halevy moved the congregation of 44 families into a 3,300 square-foot space on the southwest corner of the UC Marketplace shopping center to allow for enough social distancing to celebrate the High Holy Days amid the Coronavirus outbreak. He says the group of teenagers routinely causes a nuisance on the property, but seems to single out his congregation, formally called Kahillet Shaar HaShamayim. On Saturday, Halevy says he was walking to synagogue with his father on Governor Drive, when one of the teens recognized them. He says the teen biked over, hit the rabbi over the head with a closed fist, called him the N-word and yelled a variation of white power before biking away. "I felt very scared, definitely unsafe for the first time in my life in this neighborhood," he said. Halevy called 9-1-1 and said police officers arrived 45 minutes later. They did not make an arrest, but he told them about the series of incidents. The congregation has also designated some of its members as security guards. The incident comes amid an increase in anti-Semitism in the United States. Last year, a 19-year-old allegedly entered the Chabad of Poway Synagogue, killed one congregant and injured three others, including a child. On Monday, Halevy said he met with four officers, including a San Diego Police detective and a community relations officer. He says they pledged to increase resources to the case and are going to search for the teens, getting school police involved. A police spokesman said it would be investigated as a hate crime. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 38-year-old man was stabbed Wednesday morning after confronting a man he saw attempting to break into cars in a Rancho Bernardo parking lot, police said.It happened shortly before 2:10 a.m. near the intersection of Fairlie Road and Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.The 38-year-old man saw a man trying door handles of cars in a parking lot in the area and confronted him, Heims said.They got into an argument before the suspect ran away and the victim chased him, the officer said.The victim caught up to the man and they got into a fight, during which the victim was stabbed at least once, Heims said, adding that the man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.After the fight, the assailant was last seen running southbound on Bernardo Center Drive.The suspect was described as a 5-foot-10 white man who weighs between 140 and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. 989
