Price gouging continues to be a problem for Amazon shoppers, according to the U.S Public Interest Research Group (PIRG).A consumer watchdog says the price spikes are not based on normal supply and demand.“People are really struggling right now, and the last thing that they need to worry about is going to the store or going online and finding the products that they really need to keep themselves safe at ridiculous prices,” said Grace Brombach, a consumer watchdog associate with U.S. PIRG.U.S. PIRG found a wide range of products can cost two to 14 times more. Still, U.S. PIRG expects this problem to continue.“We see situations like this come up in hurricanes and tornadoes, when people need to buy space heaters and electric lamps,” said Brombach. “And so, this will continue to be a problem going into the future if we don't address this issue now.”Early on in the pandemic, Amazon removed thousands of listings and third party sellers from its website for suspected price gouging.In August, Amazon said it was working to maintain its “fair pricing policy” while taking reasonable increases into account. 1439

Record high ocean temperatures are bringing large crowds to San Diego beaches. The warm water also has the potential to attract more stingrays and jellyfish to the area.The Scripps Institute of Oceanography reports that surface ocean temperatures reached a record 79.5 degrees Sunday, which is more than ten degrees above normal. That, combined with unseasonably hot and humid weather, brought 333,680 people to City of San Diego beaches over the weekend, city lifeguards estimate. Clarissa Anderson, executive director of the Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, said it's unclear what has led to the higher temperatures. "The last several years we really have seen these anomalous temperatures every summer," she said, adding that the hot and humid water could be playing a role.The warm waters could also attract more stingrays to plant themselves along the shallow sand and jelly fish in the water just off shore. People who don't shuffle their feet risk a sting from the ray, while jelly fish sting on contact."More people are going to the beach, warmer temperatures, nice water and so you've just got more people and more animals, higher probability of encounter," Anderson said. As of Monday morning, they had around ,500.“We are raising funds to buy President Trump's childhood home for him, or a charity of his choosing, as a token of appreciation. What happens to the historic property is up to him!” the group states in the description of their fundraiser.The group lists possible uses for Trump’s childhood home, including as a presidential library, national historic site, trophy property or house of worship.In September 2016, President Trump told tv host Jimmy Fallon “that’s really sad looking at that, I want to buy it, I want to buy it,” when Fallon informed the president his childhood home was for sale and showed images of it.According to Paramount Realty, the home sold in 2017 for about .14 million. RANDALLSTOWN, Md. -- A 5-month-old boy was sent to an intensive care unit at The John Hopkins Hospital after enduring the kind of attack that many grown adults have not.The attack on Garrison Bailey Borkoski happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday as he and his mother slept in a house on Chapman Road in Randallstown, Maryland.“That adult, at some point and time, got up and went to the bathroom and that’s when the 5-month-old was bitten by a dog in the house, a pit bull,” said Det. Robert Reason of the Baltimore County Police Department. “There were actually several pit bulls in the home at the time this occurred.”There were four pit bulls in the home, which the owner would later tell police have no cages and typically have their roam of the interior of the house.Both mother and child had only moved in a week or two earlier.“There are no charges pending right now,” said Reason. “Based on the investigation, there is no indication that anybody had any intent to cause harm to the child at all, so there are no charges pending right now.”In the aftermath of the attack, paramedics found the baby covered in blood and motionless, but still breathing.It was later determined that Garrison had suffered a large laceration to the top of his head and lacerations to his neck, as well as puncture wounds to the rest of his body, but miraculously, just fours days after the attack, doctors released him from the hospital.“Right now, fortunately, the 5-month-old is home and recovering and doing well, so we’re very, very happy about that,” said Reason.According to the Baltimore County Department of Health, the owners surrendered the four pit bulls, allowing them to be euthanized, but it was later determined only two of the dogs had actually attacked the child.The other two were returned to the owners.This story was originally published by Jeff Hager at WMAR. 1871
