DENVER - A Colorado gun store owner who appeared on the reality TV show 'American Guns' on Discovery Channel has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for tax fraud and dealing without a license.Richard Wyatt, 54, was sentenced to 78 months on Thursday.Wyatt operated the Gunsmoke gun shop in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He was convicted last year on 10 counts, including not reporting income to the IRS.According to court records, Wyatt surrendered his federal firearms license in 2012 for unspecified violations but continued to sell guns from his store by working with another gun shop that had a license. Prosecutors said Wyatt entered sales from his store into the computer system as "miscellaneous" instead of gun sales and had customers go to the other store to fill out the background check paperwork.The court found that a total of 490 guns were involved in Wyatt's illegal operation, all of which the court ordered forfeited. 938

(KGTV) -- Leaders with SANDAG, North County Transit District, and the chair for California's Transportation Committee met Friday off 7th Street in Del Mar to get a closer look at their bluff stabilization 0 million project, now 20 years in the making. Additions include sea wall improvement and a drainage system that runs parallel to the train tracks.NCTD Executive Director Matt Tucker said "We feel really confident. It'll secure the bluffs to allow continued safe movement on the corridor and it'll give time for the exact project we want to pursue and gain, to allow funding for a permanent solution."Natural disasters like heavy rain are a big concern that would cause tracks and bluffs to crumble down. After countless collapses in the past, beachgoers like Chris Smith, are often worried.Smith told ABC 10News, "I feel comfortable but in the back of my mind you know something could always happen." He also said awareness by leaders is a plus but the tracks should be moved entirely. "With the impact to what the train is providing to the cliff, at some point there's gonna be a negative impact to it," Smith added.Leaders said the new additions will buy them about 30 years, to plan a more permanent solution which could involve moving tracks into a tunnel system.Phase 5 of the project is slated to begin next summer, while plans for phase 6, the final phase, is still in the works. 1419

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV)- After the recent horse deaths at the Del Mar Racetrack, a small group of animal activists is proposing a ban on horse racing. Local supporters of the track are saying "no." Animal rights activists were set to speak at the California Horse Racing Board meeting Thursday morning when things got heated between both sides before the session started. "We are trying to initiate a ban on horse racing, not just in California but in this country," says animal rights activist Ellen Ericksen. Ericksen says she's concerned about the safety of the animals who spend most of their time racing. "Horses are dying left and right."Supporters of the horse racing industry say the animals are being taken care of. "We take every precaution we can with these horses because we love them," says Jockey Aaron Gryder. Gryder has been a jockey at the Del Mar Racetrack for the past 32 years. "It's not our job; it's our passion."This past summer, the Del Mar Racetrack implemented new protocols to ensure horse safety, like having veterinarians on the track during every workout. "We want to make sure when the horses step out on the racetrack they are 100% in great condition," says Gryder.Supporters also say doing away with horse racing could leave a lot of people without a job. "They have plenty of time to start looking for other employment," says Ericksen. "They have plenty of time to get re-trained."A statement sent to 10News from the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club says: "Del Mar has implemented an unprecedented series of safety and welfare measures over the last several years and, while we always will strive to do better, these reforms are working. In addition, the horse racing industry in California supports 18,000 jobs and has a .6 billion economic impact in the state. That was the trigger,” retired first grade teacher, Carol Mason said. “There have been so many more that it just breaks my heart.”The 88-year-old said she was inspired to partake in her first anti-gun demonstration Saturday, after being inspired by the nationwide student walk-out last week.She and more than 100 people held signs and walked along Villa De La Valle, chanting “Never Again!” Especially after the Parkland tragedy, protestors said they could not stand to see another child being killed by gun violence. He believed that will help avoid future tragedies. “People go learn to get training and get and try different types of firearms legally, that sort of thing,” Schwartz said. “So, if you want responsible firearms ownership, you want a gun show five times a year in Del Mar.”Meanwhile, Mason accepted the fact that she will not see eye to eye with those inside the gun show. But she hoped her first ever protest at age 88 just triggered a new perspective.“We’re not trying to take away their 2nd amendment right,” Mason said. “We’re not trying to remake the whole culture.
