Hillsborough County (Florida) Sheriff's Office has released video record on May 30 that shows hundreds of looters breaking into a Tampa Walmart.Deputies are asking for the public's help to find some of the suspects who they say stole more than 0,000 in merchandise.It happened on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at 9:10 p.m. Authorities say a crowd gathered in front of a Walmart in Tampa. The store was closed due to the protests occurring outside the University Mall.People wielding blunt objects, like hammers, broke the glass entrance doors and stormed into the store.After reviewing surveillance video, detectives believe about 200 people entered the store and most began looting the electronics section. An estimated 6,000 in merchandise and damages was reported."Not only is this violence completely unacceptable, it was disrespectful to the protesters who were out there that night trying to express their message in an impactful way," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We are actively working to identify each and every one of these suspects and ask the public to provide any information they may have." 1115

Harry Leslie Smith, a World War II veteran and fierce critic of austerity politics, has died at the age of 95.Smith's son, John, confirmed his father had died in his adopted homeland, Canada, in the early hours of Wednesday morning."I am an orphan," he wrote on his father's official Twitter account. Smith fell ill and was hospitalized around a week ago, while John kept running his father's account.He added: "My dad had been so dreadfully thirsty because he'd had nil by mouth orders for almost a week. So when he decided that the potential for full recovery was not possible, he was allowed to drink a beer. Sadly though he couldn't eat."Smith was born in Yorkshire in northern England to a family of miners and grew up in poverty. He lived through the Great Depression, a period of his life that had shaped his political views.He served in Britain's Royal Air Force in World War II, but it was in his later years that he became more involved in political debate. He wrote a book, "Don't Let My Past Be Your Future: A Call to Arms," in which he criticizes the austerity policies of the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States, and warns younger generations against the rise of fascism.At the age of 94, Smith started a podcast called "Harry's Last Stand" and launched a fundraising campaign to allow him to tour refugee camps around the world.He was also a vocal supporter of the British Labour Party and advocate for the UK's National Health System, particularly by supporting junior doctors facing wage cuts.He used his Twitter account to amplify his beliefs, reaching more than 250,000 followers.Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the Labour Party, paid tribute to Smith on Wednesday."We will all miss Harry Leslie Smith - he was one of the giants whose shoulders we stand on. Anyone with info call 727-893-7780 pic.twitter.com/zoICcaYvpI— St. Pete Police (@StPetePD) July 7, 2020 The area is used by several drivers to cut to busy 34th Street South and police officers hope someone may have seen something suspicious while driving on 38th Avenue S.The area where the remains were found does not have any surveillance cameras and is not in direct view of many homes or businesses, according to detectives.Officers spent hours Tuesday looking in the wooded area around the overpass but did not find the rest of the body.Ernest Lee lives in the neighborhood and says he was in disbelief Tuesday morning as the path he walks several times a week turned into a crime scene.“I do a lot of walking and we have a whole community that walks around here so I’m surprised none of us came across it," Lee explained. “The whole neighborhood is concerned because that could be someone we know.”Detectives say the woman who found the remains told police she jogs in the area often but did not see anything suspicious during her previous run in the same area over the weekend.Rafael Lopez, a spokesperson for the St. Petersburg Police Department says it is too early to determine the gender, age or race of the remains. Lopez also said the head was decomposed and it is unknown how long the remains may have been present near the road.“We do have a wooded area on both ends so although we are in the center of the city, it occurred in a pocket where it is pretty hard to determine if anyone saw anything at all," Lopez added. "We’re asking the public if they saw anything or were around this area in the last several days to give us a call.”This story is developing.
