NEW YORK – A New York City police officer was among the several people arrested in connection to a drug trafficking bust, officials announced Monday.NYPD officer Amaury Abreu and two other men, Julia Bautista and Gustavo Valerio, are accused of conspiring to import and distribute cocaine.The three men were allegedly members of a multinational drug trafficking organization with distributors in the New York area and the Dominican Republic between January 2016 and October 2020.Bautista, 35, and Valerio, 38, were high-ranking members of the organization based in New York and were responsible for distributing and overseeing the distribution of cocaine once it was in New York, according to the federal complaint.Abreu, 34, allegedly used his position as a police officer and provided information about law enforcement procedures, performing warrant checks on DTO members, on at least one instance, distributed cocaine for the group.Officials said Abreu pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a million bond with home detention as a condition of the bond.Two other men face changes in connection to the bust. Cesar Diaz-Bautista, 43, faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, while Junior Ortiz, 29, faces charges of cocaine importation conspiracy.Ortiz was released on a 0,000 bond and Diaz-Bautista will be released on a 0,000 bond, officials said.The other two defendants had not yet been arraigned Monday.Since 2016, law enforcement agents have seized more than 350 kilograms of cocaine belonging to the DTO.“This criminal network allegedly trafficked more than 350 kilos of cocaine and was assisted by an NYPD officer, who used his knowledge and access to help them stay one step ahead of the law,” stated District Attorney Madeline Singas.“There is no place for corruption in the NYPD and it will always be prosecuted fully. NEWPORT, Wales — A 5-year-old girl in Newport, Wales, died just hours after a doctor refused to see her because she was late to her appointment, according to the BBC.The girl's mother, Shanice Clark, has been searching for answers since her daughter, Ellie-May, died from bronchial asthma in 2015, according to the New York Post. Thanks to a coroner’s inquest into her daughter's death, she was finally given some answers on Monday.The coroner ruled that Grange Clinic “missed” the opportunity to “provide potentially live-saving treatment” to her child, Sky News reports.The 5-year-old girl was reportedly not seen by a doctor, despite having an emergency appointment,  because it operated a "10-minute rule."Clark said she and her daughter arrived only five minutes late because they didn't have a car. She said she warned them she might be late when she called the clinic. According to the coroner, this was the first time the rule had been enforced in regards to an emergency appointment. Reports also state that Clark was reportedly told to come back in the morning without the doctor even looking at her daughter’s medical records, which would have shown that the child has a history of asthma.“From the evidence before me, it is not possible for me to determine with certainty whether an earlier intervention would have altered the outcome for Ellie, but nonetheless Ellie should have been seen by a [doctor] that day, and she was let down by the failures in the system,” the coroner wrote.According to the New York Post, Grange Clinic released a statement, saying: “Dr. Rowe knows that nothing can be said to Ellie-May’s family to make a difference, but she would like to say how truly sorry she is.”The coroner plans to write a letter to the health board and the clinic in hopes of addressing the tragedy and preventing similar situations in the future. NEW YORK (AP) — Justin Bieber is hoping the coronavirus pandemic is over by next summer.New dates have been announced for his previously scheduled 2020 tour, which will now take place in 2021. Tickets for his original 2020 tour will be honored on the new dates.The Justin Bieber World Tour was originally planned to begin in May but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. AEG Presents says the 45-date tour will kick off on June 2, 2021, in San Diego. Nineteen new dates have been added to the tour, and the original stops have been rerouted, according to AEG. Kehlani and Jaden Smith were originally also participating in the 2020 tour. AEG Presents says they "will not be appearing on the new dates as new support will be added at a later date."Tickets for the general public go on sale Aug. 6. 816

North Korea outlined steps Saturday to dismantle its nuclear testing site -- and confirmed that international journalists, including from the United States and the United Kingdom, would be invited to watch this month as its tunnels are blown up.The announcement, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as reported by state news agency KCNA, came a day after Pyongyang pledged no longer to carry out unannounced missile tests or other activities that put flights at risk, according to a United Nations aviation agency.North Korean leader Kim Jong Un previously had announced the conclusion of North Korea's nuclear testing program and the intended shuttering of the Punggye-ri complex. He said on April 20 that his nation already had "completed its mission" to test its weapons capability.The statement Saturday gave greater details of the "technical measures" North Korea would take to dismantle the test site and "ensure transparency of discontinuance of the nuclear test."International journalists will be invited to conduct "on-the-spot coverage in order to show in a transparent manner" how the nuclear site is being put out of use, with a dismantlement "ceremony" scheduled for as early as May 23, depending on weather, the news agency said.Since space is limited, only journalists from China, Russia, South Korea, the United States and the United Kingdom will be allowed access, according to KCNA.First, explosives will be used to collapse the tunnels, KCNA said. Then, entries to the site will be blocked and all observation facilities, research institutes and guard structures will be removed.
