There is growing concern as more drugstores are pulling over-the-counter heartburn medications like Zantac. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is looking into the amount of a potential cancer-causing ingredient in the drugs. Zantac is just one of the meds discovered to have NDMA in it. A doctor said this is a serious situation but likely a precautionary move. “It’s a real issue,” said gastroenterologist Dr. Niket Sonpal. “Now the question is, and the research isn’t really definitive, on how much exposure in the short term or in the long term actually leads to ... we simply just know right now that NDMA is associated with cancer but the quantification isn’t clear.” NDMA also got heart and blood pressure meds pulled from shelves. If you deal with heartburn, doctors say Tums, Maalox or even a glass of milk could help. Make sure you call your doctor if you're having issues, like if the heartburn is waking you up at night. There are changes you can make to help. “The medicines for heartburn control your symptoms,” Sonpal said. “But the truest way to get rid of heartburn is lifestyle change. The No. 1 cause of heartburn in the United States is obesity.”Other things that can help avoid heartburn: Don't eat heavy meals right before bedSleep with your head and shoulders raisedRecognize which foods are causing issues and stay away 1358
“Full House” Actress Lori Loughlin, her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, and other prominent parents are urging a judge to dismiss charges against them in the college admissions bribery case. A motion filed Wednesday by their lawyers accuses prosecutors of “extraordinary” misconduct. Defense attorneys say the case cannot stand because investigators bullied their informant into lying and then concealed evidence that would bolster the parents' claims of innocence. Loughlin and Giannulli are scheduled to go on trial in October on charges that they paid 0,000 to get their daughters into the University of Southern California as fake crew recruits.Loughlin, who was on the cast of the hit 90s sitcom "Full House," is accused of spending 0,000 in bribes to help her two daughters gain admission into USC. Loughlin's daughters allegedly gained entrance into USC as crew recruits, despite not having the credentials to participate in the sport.Fellow actress Felicity Huffman was also among those indicted as part of the scandal. She was accused of paying ,000 to a fictitious charity, and in return, would allow her daughter to take the SAT with a proctor who would then alter the answers to the SAT.Huffman plead guilty, and was sentenced last year to 14 days in prison. She served 12 days behind bars before getting released. 1361

A Chick-fil-A employee in Georgia is being credited with saving a boy from getting strangled after the mother reportedly begged for help in the drive thru of the fast food restaurant. Security camera video shows Logan Simmons jumped out of the drive thru window and into the distressed customer's car. He then pulled out a knife and cut the boy's seat belt. "You could see he was turning red and losing pigmentation in his face," Simmons told WSB-TV. "I just jumped out the window and ran straight down to the car."WSB reported that the boy received a call an hour later from the boy's mom thanking him for his actions. Simmons' mother was amazed with her son's quick thinking."I'm amazed he didn't panic," his mother Teri Simmons said. "As his mother, I would have panicked. I'd be running around going 'oh my gosh, what do we do?'" 845
QUICKSBURG, Va. – With a push of a button, 40,000 square feet seemingly come to life to show off America’s love affair with parades. “Every parade float tells a story,” said Joe Proctor, general manager of the American Celebration on Parade. Nestled in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, it’s a retirement village of sorts – for some of the largest floats of America’s most iconic parades. “Most people have no clue or no idea how big these parade floats are,” Proctor said. “Some of these or as long as 80 feet long and also go up to heights of over 30 feet.” Proctor grew up at the museum – literally. His father was once the general manager. Now, he runs the place. “I always felt a special love in my heart, like there was something in that,” he said. “I was a part of something very special.” So how did it all come to be here? Back in the 1940s, a man named Earl Hargrove was designing storefront window displays in Washington, D.C. His work caught the eye of President Harry Truman, who asked him to design a float for his inauguration parade. And the rest is history: Hargrove’s floats have appeared in every presidential inauguration parade since then. “We have a parade float that came out of Ronald Reagan's inauguration that's over 65 feet long and about 30 feet tall,” Proctor said. That’s not all: their floats have appeared in the Tournament of Roses Parade and Thanksgiving Day, among others. “Earl Hargrove loved parade floats,” Proctor said. “He loved decorating. And each year the parade floats kept getting bigger.” Hargrove couldn’t bear to get rid of them, so he built the museum to house them. We had the place all to ourselves on one December day, but during the summer, tens of thousands of people make their way there to see the lights, sounds and plenty of glitter. “He used to put glitter on lots of different things because he loved the flash,” Proctor said. Earl Hargrove passed away several years ago, but he ensured his decades of work remained ready to roll and show off a time-honored American tradition.
