"The international community generally welcomes and supports the Belt and Road Initiative. There is no shortage of examples," he said.
"In a real sense, Xi comes from a reformer family. More important, Xi is deeply committed to reform," said Robert Kuhn, a leading U.S. expert on China and chairman of the Kuhn Foundation, adding that when they met in 2005 and 2006, Xi spoke a lot on the importance of "reform in all facets."
She said China had conducted sound cooperation with many countries, including mutually beneficial cooperation with developing countries under the framework of South-South cooperation.
Noting that China and the European Union (EU) are comprehensive strategic partners, Xi said that China firmly supports the integration process in Europe and hoped that Portugal continues to play an active role within the EU to ensure the development of China-EU ties to be on a correct direction.
Since the first expo in 2012, more than 2,000 enterprises from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan have attended the event. Meanwhile, over 7,000 professional purchasers from some 20 countries and regions have also visited the expo, wrapping up a total trade volume of nearly 40 billion yuan so far, according to local authorities.
