SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGTV) -- California State Senator Brian Jones tested positive for coronavirus, he announced on Twitter Wednesday.Jones said he learned of his positive test result after returning to Sacramento for the end of the session.According to Jones’ Twitter, the State Senator plans to take additional tests to rule out a possible false positive.“In the meantime, he’ll be following CDC and CDPH protocols for those receiving a positive test result,” a spokesperson said.The news comes as 228 more people throughout San Diego County tested positive for the virus Wednesday.So far, more than 37,000 people in San Diego County have tested positive for COVID-19. 677

It's an online publication that highlights African American-owned businesses throughout the San Diego region.“I just wanted you to be able to see all these beautiful faces of people doing everything from cooking - there's vegan chefs, there's jewelry makers, there's clothing designers,” Cox said.As part of the magazine launch, Cox created what's called “Catalyst Black.” It’s a three month, free entrepreneurship program to help African-American entrepreneurs grow their own companies.It started this month with three students - and will repeat each quarter.“I want them to be at their best when it comes to business,” Cox said. “A lot of people miss out on deals. They miss out on financial growth, because they're trying to figure it out."Participants learn to come up with business plans, revenue projections, and to be confident enough to stand behind the prices they charge for their services.Cox said he plans to reopen applications for the next session in September. SAN DIEGO  – The affidavit accusing San Diego County Congressman Duncan Hunter and his wife, Margaret, of prohibited use of campaign contributions provides shocking details about how the couple allegedly spent the money and covered it up.The grand jury's indictment accused Hunter and his wife of misusing campaign funds on everything from vacations to tequila shots at a restaurant.The affidavit says the Hunters made purchases with campaign funds including more than ,000 for a family trip to Italy, more than ,300 for purchases at Costco, and more than ,000 for airline tickets and hotel rooms for their family and friends.Numerous alleged charges also cover amounts in the hundreds at grocery and retail stores and restaurants, including one charge in 2015 at Disneyland totaling 9.44 for Minnie Mouse Ear headbands and apparel, and another in 2016 for "30 tequila shots and one steak" totaling 2.46 at a restaurant. 983

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A comprehensive outreach strategy to expand testing access for Latino residents and other communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic was announced Friday by local leaders.The new program will kick off on Monday, with a new testing site at the Mexican Consulate in downtown San Diego at 1549 India St. Starting at 8 a.m., walk-up appointments will be available until 3:30 p.m., according to the announcement from San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, Consul General of Mexico in San Diego and other local leaders."We are prioritizing our response to health inequities in the Latino community by prioritizing efforts to help address accessibility barriers that are contributing to Latinos being disproportionately impacted by this pandemic," Fletcher said. "Whether you live in the south, north or east of our county, you should have access to testing and resources to prevent and treat the spread of COVID-19."The consulate will be the first of several locations in a 14-day rotation. Two other confirmed sites include San Luis Rey Church in Oceanside and St. Anthony of Padua in National City. SALEM, Ore. — As protesters around the country call for police reform following the death of Geroge Floyd, Oregon has released a list of more than 1,000 police officers who have been banned from working in law enforcement in the state.The document, created by Oregon's Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, lists over 1,700 people whose transgressions over the past 50 years were so serious that they were banned from working in law enforcement in the state.The list was published last week after the state Legislature passed a law requiring the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training to create such a database.According to The Associated Press, at least one officer was hired in another state after he was decertified in Oregon. According to the AP, former Coquille, Oregon, police officer Sean Sullivan was banned from policing in Oregon following a 2005 conviction for kissing a 10-year-old girl. He briefly took a job as a police chief in a Kansas town before he resigned amid an investigation.Civil rights groups believe more states need to publish such databases to prevent police officers from being hired elsewhere following decertification.
