SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Design plans were approved Wednesday for the permanent structure that will replace a newly constructed temporary homeless shelter in downtown San Diego.Designs for the downtown affordable housing project at Father Joe's Village campus were approved Wednesday by the Civic San Diego planning group. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters responded after a fire broke out in an abandoned building in San Diego’s Lincoln Park neighborhood Saturday morning. The fire started inside a building on Ocean View Boulevard and 47th Street around 9:30 a.m. Large plumes of black smoke could be seen from miles away. The building that caught fire is owned by a nearby church. According to a church official, the building was used to help house the homeless. The official told 10News the church recently told those staying in the building they had to leave after several incidents.At this time, it’s unclear what started the fire or if anyone was injured. "This fire has been stopped. Crews will be here for a few hours. Please use caution if you are in the area but take alternate routes if possible," San Diego Fire-Rescue said in a Tweet. 833

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of families and children with down syndrome were out at Crown Point Park in Pacific Beach for the first-ever Donut Run in San Diego. The money raised benefits Gigi's Playhouse which is a down syndrome achievement center. The center provides therapeutic and training programs for people of all ages. The services are completely free. Gigi's Playhouse has 37 locations across the country and even a few in Mexico. All of the staff are volunteers so donations are always welcome in order to continue providing the services. The goal was to raise ,000 but the organization doubled that goal.   667

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Flu cases have more than doubled in San Diego County than this time last year, health officials reported Wednesday. Six hundred patients have been diagnosed with influenza so far this flu season, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services (HHS) Agency. The number of cases soared last week, with 139 people diagnosed with the flu. During the same week last year, 57 flu cases were reported.
