Transcripts from a 2016 deposition in which Ghislaine Maxwell answered questions about the sex-trafficking operation she allegedly ran with the late Jeffrey Epstein were released Thursday by court order.The more than 400 pages of documents were ordered unsealed earlier this week after a legal battle between Maxwell and Virginia Giuffre, who accuses Maxwell, Epstein and others of sexually abusing her when she was a minor.CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL TRANSCRIPTMaxwell is accused of recruiting young girls for Epstein to have sex with, and of allegedly ordering young girls and women to have sex with rich and powerful men.The depositions were taken as part of a lawsuit brought against Maxwell by Giuffre. The lawsuit was eventually settled.There are redactions in the transcript to remove private information of some of the people it mentions.Lawyers for Maxwell, 58, had argued the transcript, which reflects seven hours of interviews over two days, should remain sealed, in part to protect her right to a fair trial in July on charges that she helped Epstein traffic and sexually abuse teenage girls in the 1990s.They noted that portions of the transcripts relate to perjury charges in the indictment she currently faces. She has pleaded not guilty.Maxwell has been incarcerated since her arrest in early July. If convicted, she could face up to 35 years in prison.Maxwell’s arrest came a year after Epstein, 66, was arrested and charged with sex trafficking. He killed himself in August 2019 at a federal jail in Manhattan where he was awaiting trial without bail.In 2008 in Florida, Epstein pleaded guilty to state charges of soliciting and procuring a person under age 18 for prostitution. He spent 13 months in jail, paid settlements to victims and remained a registered sex offender. 1801

There's outrage among Michiganders waiting for unemployment benefits after learning a state employee allegedly teamed up with his barber's wife and stole over a million dollars in unemployment money.This is a horrific case of greed, especially with so many people depending on that money, and now finding out a state employee was benefiting at their expense.“It’s just heartbreaking to think about. It’s just like they don’t have a conscience,” said Melissa Filar.Filar has been waiting 14 weeks for unemployment and after learning a state employee is accused of taking over a million dollars in aid she says, “the hits just keep coming.”“There are a lot of horrible people out there; I think they’re really selfish," Filar said. "They probably see this as a golden opportunity to get rich."Federal prosecutors says 41-year-old Jermaine Rose, a claims examiner with the state unemployment insurance agency, teamed up with his barber's wife, 36-year-old Serenity Poynter, to steal more than a million dollars in unemployment aid meant for people in need.“They’re diverting the money and using it for their own greedy purposes and that is really sad, because right now we are at a time where thousands of people in Michigan are out of work because of the pandemic,” said U.S Attorney Mathew Schneider.The feds say Poynter filed more than a dozen fraudulent claims using different social security numbers, and also different names.“When you steal money from the unemployment system, you’re really stealing money from the people who need it and that money can go to pay for bread, for milk for food,” Schneider said.Rose and Poynter are charged with mail and wire fraud and theft of government funds, punishable up to 20 years. For Michiganders like Filar, still waiting for unemployment, she says more needs to be done to take care of people who are struggling.“I’m like going through my entire life savings and I have no money coming in right now," she said. "I am an artist. I do commissions but it’s peanuts compared to what I have to spend. Three students who gave their lives when a gunman opened fire inside a Florida high school will be awarded Medal's of Heroism by the U.S. Army, a spokesperson told Scripps station WFTS in Tampa.According to the U.S. Army, "The Medal of Heroism is a U.S. military decoration awarded by the Department of the Army to a JROTC Cadet who performs an act of heroism. The achievement must be an accomplishment so exceptional and outstanding that it clearly sets the individual apart from fellow students or from other persons in similar circumstances. Today Prosecutor Worthy granted relief to Mr. Danny Burton based on the work of the WC Conviction Integrity Unit. This is based upon a finding of new evidence that undermines the reliability of Mr. Burton’s conviction. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office will not be re-trying the case, and as a result Mr. Burton has been released from MDOC today. 357

This summer, Uncharted decided to put it to the test.CEO Banks Benitez says he started looking into it in 2019. He brought it to his executive board, and they decided it was something they were going to implement in 2020. Then, COVID-19 happened."So, we asked this question, 'Do we need to be working like crazy hours right now or do we need to really think about how we care for the mental health of our team and give people some space?'" said Benitez.This summer, they launched an experiment, hiring a third-party company to evaluate the efficacy of the experiment. The team worked Monday through Thursday, taking every Friday off. The hours were not made up throughout the week. The team worked four 8-hour workdays.They looked at three main things: performance, culture, and mental health."Performance stayed the same and was constant over the course of the experiment compared to previous performance," said Benitez.Culture, he says, slightly improved at the Denver-based company. People felt just as or a little more connected to members on their team.Lastly, to no surprise, mental health improved."I know that our best work comes when our team is healthy when our team is mentally healthy, when our team is aligned and in touch with each other," said Benitez.Benitez says there’s a different mentality that his employees bring in when they have a four-day workweek. They’re more focused and clearer about priorities. However, there are some downfalls"There’s a little bit less buffer time to kind of just go with the wind. You have to be really thoughtful about how you structure your time. And of course, the benefit of that is, Fridays are off," said Benitez.That helps lead to more downtime and time to refresh before starting the work grind again Monday morning."How do we situate Uncharted within the broader life that they’re living, [whether] that’s family, kids, adventures, travel, all that stuff. And if we can do that, I think the team will come back and perform better," said Benitez. 2153
