Amazon’s investment follows its product announcements last week that included a new Alexa-enabled microwave, clock, and audio-related devices for the home as the tech giant aims to get its voice platform everywhere. Earlier this year, it paid a reported billion to acquire home security company Ring.

Amazon’s rise over the past few years has been absolutely fascinating to watch. The company is now being discussed along the lines of Apple and Google and Microsoft in terms of its new-found power in the tech industry. Its market value keeps growing and growing.
Amazon’s market capitalization is now .6 trillion, alongside Microsoft and behind Apple as the world’s valuable publicly-traded companies. Shares were up more than 6% Wednesday.
Amazon’s Marketplace lets third-party business owners sell their products on Amazon, which also helps fulfill orders via its warehouses and shipping networks. Marketplace is one of the company’s three “pillars,” along with Amazon Prime and Amazon Web Services.?Many have?speculated about the company’s fourth pillar, which could be artificial intelligence, led by Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa.
