PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Human body parts that authorities say may have been intended for medical research were found over the weekend in northern Arizona.According to a statement released Sunday by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified about the remains near Prescott on Saturday and an examination confirmed they were human.A second site with additional body parts was discovered Sunday.The sheriff’s office says it is treating the investigation as a homicide, but the Yavapai County medical examiner says it appears the remains from both sites are from a medical institution and were intended for use in the educational and research field.The sheriff’s office described abandoning remains as a serious crime and said it intends to find “those culpable for such disrespect shown in the cavalier way the remains were discarded.”Sheriff Scott Mascher and Sheriff-Elect David Rhodes issued statements, saying they’ll work together to assure that whatever resources necessary are available to determine those responsible are found and prosecuted.“It is not much that could surprise me anymore, but this news makes me sick, especially for the families of those whose remains were found. President Donald Trump does not like the news that General Motors would close several plants and cut more than 10,000 jobs. Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn on Monday afternoon, Trump said he spoke with CEO Mary Barra and told her he wasn't happy with the decision."I told her I'm not happy about it," Trump told reporters."The United States saved General Motors and for her to take that company out of Ohio is not good," he continued. "I think she's going to put something back in soon."On Monday, GM announced it would close four US-based plants, including two in metro Detroit; the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant and the Warren Transmission Operations plant.According to a spokesperson for GM, the plants will be unallocated which means they will no longer produce vehicles in those plants in 2019. According to the company, the future of the plants will be part of contract talks with the UAW next year.“The actions we are taking today continue our transformation to be highly agile, resilient and profitable, while giving us the flexibility to invest in the future,” Barra said in a release. “We recognize the need to stay in front of changing market conditions and customer preferences to position our company for long-term success.”According to the release, GM will lay off 14,700 factory and white-collar workers. Of those, 8,100 will be white-collar workers that will either take buyouts or be laid off.The company said that the moves will help continue its focus on crossovers, SUVs and trucks. President Donald Trump has reportedly asked the FDA to permit an untested herbal extract to be marketed as a dietary supplement and a potential cure for Covid-19, according to reporting by Axios.Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and MyPillow founder and CEO Mike Lindell both support using oleander extract.Oleandrin is commonly used to treat heart conditions and asthma.Lindell, who is a vocal Trump supporter and personal friend, met with President Trump and Secretary Carson in July to tout the untested drug for use in coronavirus cases. President Trump vocalized support for the extract in the meeting, according to Axios.Lindell reportedly has a stake in Phoenix Biotechnology, the company that makes oleandrin.There is a small, non-peer-reviewed study that oleandrin inhibited coronavirus in test-tube experiments using monkey kidney cells.“I haven’t (pushed the FDA to approve it),” the president told reporters Monday morning when asked about oleandrin. When asked if it was something he would support, he responded, “Is it something that people are talking about very strongly? We’ll look at it, we’ll look at it.
