The new law forces hospitals to post prices for every item and service they provide. According to KRON, hospitals have hidden that information from the public in the past, claiming it’s proprietary information or would confuse people. Few hospitals around the country post a small list of prices while others require patients to contact their healthcare provider or speak with someone in billing. Hospitals warn that the prices listed will likely vary from the actual prices charged to customers due to rates negotiated with insurance companies. 729

Washington state has a new law to protect net neutrality at a time when the feds are getting rid of it.In a bipartisan effort, the state's legislators passed House Bill 2282. which was signed into law Monday by Gov. Jay Inslee."Washington will be the first state in the nation to preserve the open internet," Inslee said at the bill signing.The state law, approved by the legislature last month, is to safeguard net neutrality protections, which have been repealed by the Federal Communications Commission and are scheduled to officially end April 23. Net neutrality requires internet service providers to treat all online content the same, meaning they can't deliberately speed up or slow down traffic from specific websites to put their own content at advantage over rivals.The FCC's decision to overturn net neutrality has been championed by the telecom industry, but widely criticized by technology companies and consumer advocacy groups. Attorneys general from more than 20 red and blue states filed a lawsuit in January to stop the repeal.Inslee said the new measure would protect an open internet in Washington, which he described as having "allowed the free flow of information and ideas in one of the greatest demonstrations of free speech in our history."HB2282 bars internet service providers in the state from blocking content, applications, or services, or slowing down traffic on the basis of content or whether they got paid to favor certain traffic. WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump said Thursday that he will soon sign an executive order that will establish a commission to promote "patriotic education" in schools. He said it will be called the “1776 Commission,” named after the year the United States was founded.“It will encourage our educators to teach our children about the miracle of American history and make plans to honor the 250th anniversary of our founding,” said Trump during a speech at the National Archive Museum on Constitution Day.Trump also announced that the National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a grant to support the development of pro-American curriculum that he says celebrates the truth about the nation’s history.“The only path to national unity is through our shared identity as Americans,” said Trump. “That is why it is so urgent that we restore patriotic education to our schools.”During his speech, Trump took aim, again, at The 1619 Project, an initiative developed by The New York Times Magazine in 2019. The project “aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.”Trump claims The 1619 Project distorts American History and he blames Democrats.“The left has warped, distorted and defiled the American story with deceptions, falsehoods and lies. There is no better example that The New York Times’ totally discredited 1619 Project,” said Trump. “This project rewrites American history to teach our children that we were founded on the principle of oppression, not freedom. Nothing could be further from the truth.”In the past, Trump has threatened to cut funding to public schools that implement The 1619 Project into their curriculum.
