IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Friday’s high tide was powerful enough to wipe out a front porch and flood streets along the Imperial Beach coastline. Some neighbors who live along Seacoast Drive tried to put out sandbags earlier in the week. It wasn’t enough to stop water from reaching inside homes. “I’ve talked to someone they've lived here 30 years they say this is the worst they've seen,” a neighbor told 10News. Many residents are concerned about the bacteria lingering in the ocean after recent sewage spills, and now draining into their homes. RELATED: Sandbags available in San Diego CountyMark Merrifield from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography is studying the combination of waves and tides that lead to these flooding events. “We have sensors out in the water measuring offshore waves, waves as they come to the shore and the flood as it happens around the street here,” said Merrifield. Imperial Beach crews are removing sand from the roadway so they can get to the clogged storm drain and start relieving some of the flooding.FEMA flood maps for the Imperial Beach area indicate the southern end of the street is designated as a floodway. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif., (KGTV) — After six grueling days on the fire line, members of the San Diego-based Strike Team called to fight the Kincade Fire are back home. 10News met with the fire crew from Imperial Beach, who said this was the first time in 11 years that they were called to assist in Northern California. Today, they were back on duty, just hours after their arrival. It's just another day at the Imperial Beach firehouse. Fire Engineer Cory Cooper, firefighter Nick Morales, and Captain Ehren Kahle are cleaning up their ride, Engine 39, after a long trip up north. "It was just kind of a gentle immersion into chaos," Kahle said. Last Friday, the three were part of a large San Diego-based Strike Team called to assist in Sonoma County. As soon as they arrived, they headed straight to the fire line. "It started out with light smoke, which progressively got worse, to a point where my engineer had difficulty seeing the road at some point," Kahle said. Buildings had crumbled, citizens were in chaos. But they were there, fighting the explosive flames, seemingly non-stop."We rest when we can," Kahle laughed. Once the spread slowed down, the team headed back home. The men arrived at 11 p.m. on Thursday. While firefighters in larger departments are given a 24-hour rest period, these guys with the small Imperial Beach department are already back on shift."We're right back to our normal routine."It's day-to-day calls like these, as well as being part of a large Strike Team that reminds Captain Kahle of the true camaraderie of the fire service. "Although I may be going out on a Strike Team with men that I have never worked with or never even met in my entire life, you can probably take a firefighter off of an engine from San Diego, Coronado, National City, or Poway, throw them onto their engine, and they will drive right into that crew and be able to function," Kahle said. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Parents in Imperial Beach say the conditions are Reama Park could be dangerous to their children, as playground equipment is starting to show signs of deterioration."It's not normal wear and tear," says Casandra Stoll, who brings her daughter to the park almost every day. "I'd say it's something that needs to be addressed for sure."Stoll says her daughter tore her pants on a crack that developed in one of the slides. She also pointed out parts of the playground where rust and cracked plastic have created jagged edges."If she were to get cut on that, you have to worry about tetanus and any other kind of infection you can get," says Stoll.Other areas of the park have patches in the padded ground that are missing. Even the plastic coverings on park benches and tables have been worn away to expose the rusted metal.Rust on the playground equipment has also created holes in the pipes. Some of them are big enough for a child's finger to get stuck in.Parents says they understand that the playground won't always be in pristine condition. They're willing to accept some rust from the sea-air and normal wear and tear on the equipment. But they say the damage at Reama Park is too much.Sam Townsley brings his daughter Samantha to the park often. He wants her to be able to run free and have fun but says he's keeping an eye out for damage and danger."She's got a sense of autonomy," he says. "As long as there's no overt risk, it's alright."Parents say they hope the city can make repairs quickly."I just hope they can maintain it and keep it up and keep it safe for all the kids to enjoy for years to come," says Stoll. The City of Imperial Beach responded to 10News Tuesday, saying they’re waiting for money to come from the state parks bond, and expect to receive 0,000 for repairs within the next fiscal year.Officials also said they’re aware of the problems, and that Reama Park is in the worst condition of any Imperial Beach park. 1985

I asked what the issue was and he said my brother was "in the bushes" and it was "suspicious" and they thought he may have been homeless. I asked why I needed to show ID at my own home. He said "Well, it's not your home. The University owns it." (9/n)— Danielle Fuentes Morgan (@mos_daf) August 22, 2020 311

Hurricane Willa is nearing the Pacific coast of Mexico as a potentially catastrophic Category 5 storm, after experiencing what the National Hurricane Center called "explosive" strengthening over the past 48 hours.Willa's maximum sustained winds, as of Monday morning, were 160 mph, making it a top-of-the-scale hurricane. Its current intensity is slightly more than Hurricane Michael's when it made landfall in Florida's Panhandle less than two weeks ago.The storm has supercharged at an incredible rate since it formed over the weekend. From Sunday morning to Monday morning, Hurricane Willa strengthened 80 mph in only 24 hours, and went from forming into a tropical storm on Saturday morning to a Category 5 in less than 48 hours. The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for Willa to weaken some before landfall, but the storm is still expected to be a major hurricane, likely still a high-end Category 4, when it makes landfall on Tuesday afternoon. 983
