"This joint effort is a great example of how our Consumer Protection Unit works to protect people from unfair business practices in the marketplace and ensure that California's consumer protection laws are followed."The judgment requires Jdate, Christian Mingle, and all of Spark's other dating sites to have full transparency with consumers about automatically renewing memberships.The company now must:-- clearly and conspicuously disclose the renewal terms;-- get consumers' consent, through a separate check box (or similar mechanism) that does not include other terms and conditions;-- send a clear summary of the renewal terms after consumers pay; and-- allow consumers to cancel easily.Spark Networks cooperated with the task force to reach the resolution.According to prosecutors, online "subscriptions" and other automatically recurring charges have proliferated in the United States in recent years. Some renewals come after "free trials," where consumers need to cancel in time to avoid the charges.Federal and state law requires businesses to make auto-renewals clear to consumers, and to get their "express, affirmative consent" before collecting any money. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate will unveil 190 new parking spaces in the congested Convoy District in Kearny Mesa Tuesday before the City Council reviews that neighborhood's community plan."If you've been to the Convoy District, you know that finding a parking space can be extremely challenging," Cate said."My office has unwaveringly supported the small businesses in this hub for Asian cuisine and culture. To ensure this community project came to fruition, we spent countless days working side-by-side with business owners to ensure they were included in this process. Angled parking is the tip of the iceberg for the entire Kearny Mesa Community Plan process."Kearny Mesa was founded in 1937. Over the past eight decades, the commercially and industrially dense neighborhood has transformed into an iconic San Diego community, featuring the Convoy District, which recently formed a "Pan Asian Cultural District."Cate, in June of 2016, began the process of implementing angled parking in the Convoy District at the community's request. Two years later during his State of the District address, he announced the installation of 200 angled parking spaces would immediately begin.A total of 190 angled parking spaces have been added in the neighborhood, including 45 on Dagget Street, 80 on Vickers Street and 65 on Opportunity Road.The existing community plan for Kearny Mesa has not been updated since 1992. For the past two years, the San Diego's Planning Department has led the Kearny Mesa Community Plan update to determine how Kearny Mesa will develop in the future. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Association of Governments and Caltrans will begin three nights of overnight closures of northbound Interstate 5 Tuesday night after completing overnight work along southbound I-5 ahead of schedule. Work crews will close northbound I-5 from state Route 52 to Genesee Avenue from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night though Thursday, according to SANDAG. The closures are necessary to remove wooden structures that supported the recently completed construction of a trolley overpass at Voigt Drive Neither agency expected to begin closures of northbound I-5 until later this month or early July due to similar work on a trolley overpass spanning southbound I-5 at Nobel Drive, which began June 9. Those closures were expected to last until June 28 but concluded early last Tuesday morning. SANDAG expects to conduct additional closures of northbound I-5 June 23-27. The closures are part of the .17 billion Mid-Coast Trolley Blue Line Extension, which includes a planned 11-mile extension of trolley service by San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System from Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego to University City. The extension will add trolley stops in Mission Bay Park, UC San Diego and Westfield UTC. SANDAG is receiving .04 billion in funding from the Federal Transit Administration to complete the project. The extension and related projects are intended to reduce traffic congestion as the county's population increases. Construction on the extension began in 2016 and is scheduled to be completed in 2021. 1548
