(KGTV) — A reminder to dog owners as hot weather settles into San Diego: Watch out for your pooch's paws.The general rule of thumb for hot weather is if it's too hot to put your hand on the ground, it's too hot for your dog's paws.In Medical Lake, Wash., a dog named Olaf is now recovering after its owner failed to properly protect his dog's paws. The Medical Lake Veterinary Hospital posted photos showing Olaf's pads burned off:"Olaf walked over a mile ... before his owner realized his pads were burned, and even then he wasn't whining or limping!" the hospital posted. "He is one tough cookie (and exceptionally sweet cookie.)"Olaf's owner told KEPR he didn't notice his dog's injury until he saw bloody paw prints on the ground and that the the injury exposed raw muscle.Veterinary experts suggest dog owners protect their dog's paws using pet boots, paw wax, or socks. It also helps to keep dogs on grass or walk when the temperature outside and pavement is much cooler. 986

(KGTV) - A workplace shooting at YouTube's San Bruno headquarters has left many local workers wondering, "what would I do?"Cody Perron, COO of the security firm Fidelis Global Group, said it initially comes down to two simple things every employee can do."Number one is maintain situational awareness, so anywhere you are whether it's public or your office space," Perron said. "If it's in public, be concerned with your surroundings and notice things that stand out, that are counter to normal activity in that environment. So when you walk inside a facility, especially where you work, you should know where your entries and exits are. (KGTV) -- Democrat Juan Vargas has won reelection to the U.S. House in the 51st Congressional District, the Associated Press says. He faced Republican Juan Hidalgo. Juan Vargas was first elected in 2013. He served on the committee of financial services and the committee of foreign affairs from 2019 to 2020.Vargas previously served on the State Senate representing the 40th District, the State Assembly in the 79th District, and the San Diego City Council.Hidalgo is a retired US Marine. He faced Vargas in 2018 with Vargas capturing 71 percent of the vote.The district includes all of Imperial County and the southern part of San Diego County including National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, and El Centro. 721
