An autopsy to determine when and how 20-year-old Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts died is planned for today.Tibbetts vanished while on an evening jog on July 18. Nearly a month later, a man who confessed to pursuing her as she ran on a country road led authorities to the field where a body believed to be hers was buried under corn stalks, officials said Tuesday. While authorities have yet to confirm the body is hers, they arrested Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, on first-degree murder charges.Rivera, who's an undocumented immigrant, told investigators he saw her and got out of his car. He ran beside Tibbetts -- even after she warned him she would call police, officials told reporters Tuesday. 701

Are you looking for some steaks to throw on the grill this weekend or on the Fourth of July? You may want to bring extra money; the pandemic is sending meat prices up sharply this month.High prices are starting to impact consumers, restaurants, and anyone who cooks meat for their business.Tyrique Ramsey and his family have served his community from a food truck for years, but he was forced to raise prices last week as pork costs skyrocketed."We used to be able to get it for .99 a pound, but now we are almost paying .99 a pound," Ramsey said. While chicken and ground beef prices are higher, the worst is steak, where prices have gone up almost 50% this year on some cuts. for a package of steakAt Walmart, basic strip steaks were a pound, which came to for a package of two small, shrink-wrapped steaks. One of the cheapest cuts of meat, chuck roast, was a pound, almost double from a year ago.Ground beef was in the (fatty) to (lean) a pound range as well, a far cry from the normal summertime price of a pound in many supermarkets.Shopper Jackie Thompson says she can't afford it anymore."I think it's ridiculous, it is totally ridiculous," she said. " for a steak!"At a nearby supermarket, bone-in ribeyes were at a pound, bringing the total to for one steak. Top-dollar cuts like filet mignon were nowhere to be found. The Hutchinson family wondered if short supplies to blame."It's still pretty thin in the meat aisle, for sure," they said.Government blames plant shutdowns and slowdownsThe Bureau of Labor Statistics says processing plant shutdowns continue to cause shortages.Even after those plants reopen, many will be on limited schedules with fewer workers. The Labor report says beef prices rose 11% in May. The average retail price of beef roast rose a whopping 19% during the month. In addition, prices for chicken, tomatoes and even ice cream went up the government said.Restaurants forced to raise pricesRamsey has had to explain why his price board has gone up in recent days, just as many restaurants are raising their menu prices."I just had to go up a few more dollars," he said. "But a lot of the customers, they kind of understand, we explain it to them."Grocery stores insist they are not profiting from rising prices. Still, attorneys general offices in several states are investigating the source of these price hikes, which appear to be linked to processing and slaughterhouse shutdowns due to COVID-19.Until the pandemic subsides, prices could remain on the high side. ANAHEIM (CNS) - Orange County health officials are investigating 12 cases of Legionnaire's disease among people who traveled to, resided in, or worked in Anaheim during the month of September.  The discovery has led to the shutdown of two cooling towers at Disneyland, which nine of the 12 people visited during September.  "On October 27, 2017, when the Disneyland Park was identified as a common location of eight (8) cases, HCA contacted the Disney organization and set up site visits at the Park to assess potential sources. Since that time, HCA staff have visited Park properties and worked with Disney to identify potential sources of Legionella," said Jessica Good, spokeswoman for the Orange County Health Agency."On November 3, 2017, Disney reported to HCA that records provided by a contractor indicated that (as part of their quarterly, routine testing) elevated levels of Legionella had been identified in (two of 18) cooling towers on October 2, 2017 and treated/disinfected by the contractor on October 4, 2017. Neither Disney nor the contractor would have been aware of the human cases at that time."On November 1, 2017, Disney had the towers taken out of service. They report having performed subsequent testing and disinfection and brought the towers back into service November 5, 2017. Test results will not be known for approximately 10-14 days."Because of the existence of human illness and the inability to assure the cooling towers are clear of Legionella bacteria until test results are known, the County of Orange Health Officer issued a Health Officer's Order on 11/8/17 requiring that Disney take the towers out of service until they are verified to be free from contamination, at which time the Health Officer will lift the order Disney independently made the determination to take the towers out of operation on 11/7/17, after meeting with HCA staff but prior to the order."The 12 cases range in age from 52 to 94, Good said. Ten of the 12 were hospitalized and one person with additional health issues died. That person did not visit Disneyland, she said. There is no known ongoing risk associated with the outbreak, according to Good.Health agency officials say the disease is becoming more common, citing 55 reports of Legionella disease in Orange County through October 2017, compared with 53 for the entire year of 2016 and 33 in 2015.Officials say Legionella, at low levels, poses no threat to humans and is commonly found in human-made water systems. It becomes problematic when it is in large quantities, typically due to stagnant or improperly sanitized spas and water systems. When Legionella bacterial levels are high, it can be transmitted through inhalation of contaminated water vapor. Typical sources are improperly sanitized spas; indoor and outdoor fountains, showers, and cooling towers (which emit water vapor into the air) used as part of air conditioning systems in large spaces such as hospitals, hotels, entertainment venues, etc.Symptoms of legionellosis develop 2-10 days after exposure, and include fever, chills, cough, muscle aches, and headaches. Infected persons often have pneumonia and may need to be hospitalized. It is treated with antibiotics, which can improve symptoms and shorten the length of illness.Persons with legionellosis are not infectious; the infection is not spread from person to person. Those most at risk of getting sick from Legionella infection include people who are smokers, have chronic lung disease or weak immune systems, and people over the age of 65.   3561

An unauthorized vehicle drove onto Travis Air Force Base in Northern California, crashed and erupted into flames, killing the driver, authorities said. There were no other fatalities in the security breach Wednesday night, the base said in a statement. It did not identify the driver, but said the car "gained unauthorized access" through the main gate."Travis AFB security forces immediately responded," the statement said. "Additionally, the base's explosive ordnance disposal team, office of special investigations and other responders were on scene."It's unclear whether the crash was deliberate. The Air Force and the FBI are investigating."The investigation is ongoing and there are no current known threats to the base or community," the base said. " The main gate has reopened and all other facilities are operating as normal."Travis Air Force Base is home to 10,000 military personnel, and a major hub for logistics and military cargo in the Pacific. It's the largest military aerial port in the US, and includes facilities for airlift and aerial refueling. The base is located in Solano County and is midway between Sacramento and San Francisco."The safety and welfare of our airmen, their families and our local community is our top priority," said Col. John Klein, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander. "I am extremely proud of how our first responders quickly addressed the situation to keep Travis and the surrounding area out of harm's way."  1464

ANAHEIM (CNS) - Thousands of Disneyland enthusiasts lined up early Friday to experience the theme park's newest Star Wars Land ride.Bobby Navarro of Garden Grove said he got up at 4 a.m. with his friends and got into the park by 5:30 a.m.Navarro experienced Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance when it debuted at Disney World on Dec. 5, so he had some practice in using the company's application to sign up for a pass to the attraction. Navarro said it was key to get everyone in the group connected on the app and requesting a pass simultaneously, but that also meant he had to de-select others who were not at the park with his group.RIDE REVIEW & VIDEO: 'Rise of the Resistance' fulfills missing 'Star Wars' feel at Galaxy's Edge"The queue for the digital app started at 6 o'clock... and we still had to wait hours before the app opened," Navarro said. "And then, it was whoever is able to push the button fastest."Navarro and his group were assigned to boarding group 84, and he was advised the park may only be able to handle 82 boarding groups on Friday, but he was hopeful his group will get a chance to see the Anaheim version of the ride."The first day in Florida, they got up to boarding group 125," Navarro said."We're close to group 50 now," he said about 1 p.m.Navarro said even the wait in line for the ride in Florida helped guests feel immersed in the experience. The attraction included a hologram explaining the "context and storyline," he said.RELATED: California Adventure's 'Avengers Campus' set for summer 2020 openingCast members help guide guests through the line until the fun begins with an abduction and imprisonment by stormtroopers, he said. One of the more impressive attractions is a glass panel that makes participants feel as if they are looking into outer space, he said.As the "prisoners" are being told they will be "eliminated," resistance fighters break through with lightsabers to help lead an escape, Navarro said."They tell you, `Hurry up, get out,"' Navarro said.RELATED: Disneyland tickets are on sale for as low as right nowThe guests make their escape on a pod, he said."The mag-lev system is what really makes the ride," he said of the battleship in the attraction. "This really feels like a battleship.""They really did a great job of transporting you to a different place," he said. The ride takes about 20 minutes, he said.Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer said the city has not experienced any issues with traffic in the area despite also hosting the National Association of Music Merchants convention."I haven't heard of any problems," he said. "These large events, although extraordinary for Anaheim, are definitely not out of our comfort zone to handle these pretty regularly. And Disney has ingress and egress down to a science."Carringer said he got to experience the new attraction last night."It was cool," he said. "My wife enjoyed it too." 2912
