COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder and four of his associates have been arrested on charges in relation to “what is likely the largest bribery, money laundering scheme ever perpetrated against the people of the state of Ohio," one that allegedly involved at least million passed through a 501c4 organization controlled by Householder and other entities for the purpose of passing HB6 in 2019, a law that provided a .5 billion taxpayer bailout to FirstEnergy.U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio David DeVillers spoke with reporters about the 81-page indictment of Householder and his associates on Tuesday afternoon.-DeVillers alleges that in exchange for million in dark money funneled through a 501c4 named Generation Now, Householder and his co-conspirators furthered the affairs of the enterprise.-Devillers said the scheme was bribery, “pure and simple,” a “quid pro quo” and “pay for play,” citing the enterprise’s own words.-Company A, which was not identified during the news conference due to the regulations and rules at the U.S. Attorney’s office, provided million in exchange for a .5 billion bailout.-Householder created Generation Now, a non-profit entity that, unlike PACs and SuperPACs, does not have to disclose its donors.-501c4 organizations are supposed to be operated to promote social welfare. They cannot benefit a shareholder or individual, or engage in direct political activity, which it did in this case, Devillers said. “Not a dime went to any social program,” he said.-Householder’s co-defendants are political advisers and lobbyists who worked in different capacities in the enterprise, DeVillers said.-The enterprise began with millions of dollars filtered through Generation Now and other entities to support candidates who would vote to elect Householder as Speaker and attack political rivals who would not. “It was very successful,” DeVillers said.-Of all the individuals who were funded through Generation Now and the other filter entities, all voted to elect Householder as speaker.-Once he was elected speaker, and had his so-called “power base” of representatives, millions more were funneled from Company A to Generation Now and other entities to get HB6 passed, a bill that subsidizes First Energy’s nuclear and coal power plants with .5 billion of Ohio taxpayer dollars.-Commercials, mailers, flyers, which ultimately came from Company A, were used to support HB6’s passage.-After the bill passed but before it was signed into law, a ballot initiative was started to attempt to reverse the bill.-At that point, tens of millions more went from Company A to Generation Now and its filters to defeat the ballot initiative, which was ultimately successful, DeVillers said.-Throughout this process, Householder and his associates were “able to line their pockets” with the dark money passed through Generation Now.-DeVillers alleges millions went to the personal benefit of Householder and his associates, including 0,000 to pay off a lawsuit against Householder, and another 0,000 toward a house in Florida.-The case came from an unnamed whistleblower, officials said.-The FBI confirmed that agents were carrying out "law enforcement activity" at Householder's farm property in Glenford in southestern Ohio Tuesday morning, along with the Perry County Sheriff's Office.After the U.S. Attorney's news conference, Gov. DeWine issued this statement calling for the speaker to resign:"I am deeply concerned about the allegations of wrongdoing in the issued today by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Every American has the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Because of the nature of these charges, it will be impossible for Speaker Householder to effectively lead the Ohio House of Representatives; therefore, I am calling on Speaker Householder to resign immediately.“This is a sad day for Ohio.”Lt. Gov. Jon Husted also issued a statement calling for the speaker's resignation:"As a former House Speaker, it makes me incredibly sad. With the announcement of today’s criminal complaints, the Speaker can no longer effectively perform his duties and should resign. COMPTON, Calif. – Dr. Keith Claybrook says he'll never forget the way he felt when a national guardsman was stationed near his backyard in Compton During the 1992 Los Angeles riots.The uprising happened after a jury acquitted four L.A. police officers in the caught-on-camera beating of Rodney King, a Black man.“I have vivid memories of a national guardsman being posted on the roof. Here’s a national guardsman, looking over the side of a building, automatic weapon in hand, as far as I’m concerned, 13 years old, staring at my dad and I. Why are you standing on this roof looking at a man and his son doing lawn maintenance?” asked Claybrook.Shades of ’92 -- that’s all Keith says he sees this year, especially in Portland.“In my experiences, and in my studies, and in my conversation with other people, the presence of law enforcement in general, and the presence of other, you know the national guard, forces like that, it doesn’t do anything but escalate the situation," said Claybrook.Federal forces have been used in the past on U.S. soil for a variety of reasons.We found more than 10 examples in the last 100 years. From dispersing protesters after World War I in Washington D.C., to integrating schools in the south in 1950s and ‘60s, to the Los Angeles Riots in 1992."It is rare, and it's usually used in extraordinary circumstances," said Kevin Baron, the founder of Defense One, an online publication focusing on national security, foreign policy and the U.S. military.He says there are some big differences between what happened in Portland, and what happened in some of these other instances."At least in L.A., for example, the U.S. soldiers and National Guard were asked to come in and bring peace and deter further rioting and violence that was happening," said Barron.In the case of Portland, the mayor, and the governor of Oregon have been on record several times saying they did not want federal law enforcement involved.“No one knew who these people were originally. He says while people were confused at first, there was legal basis for the officers to be in Portland."There is a section of the U.S. federal code that authorizes homeland security, get employees of homeland security and have them protect federal property and the people on federal property," said Farrell.There are other things about what happened in Portland that stand out as well.“They seem to be essentially abducting people off the streets,” said Farrell."The image of them as militarized, wearing combat fatigues, without insignia using rental cars and unmarked vehicles," said Barron.“Individuals walking on the streets and a minivan would pull up and these camouflaged, officers, as it turned out, would just grab them and put them in the minivan and drive off,” said Farrell.U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said in a statement its agents did in fact pick up protesters in vans, but did so for the safety of everyone.As of July 31, federal law enforcement had arrested at least 25 protestors in Portland.Claybrook says while they are differences between Portland in 2020 and L.A. in 1992, it’s the similarities that stick out to him.“I’m still questioning what law of the land is being enforced in 2020. CORONADO (KGTV) - The 200 million dollar project is being called the "Reimagination" of the Hotel del Coronado. The plans have been in the works for almost 20 years according to Coronado resident Felicia Bell, "17 years ago in 2002 when it was first presented to our community and the California Coastal Commission". Bell tells 10News the Hotel del holds a special place in everyone's heart, "my two daughters were married there".The beachfront resort just celebrated its 130th anniversary. The history makes it much more than a resort to the community, "this represents our history here in Coronado this is the key to the rest of the whole island" Kitt Walker tells 10News. Walker and her husband have lived in Coronado for years and say it's a staple piece for the community, "if it hadn’t been for the hotel del, Coronado wouldn’t even be here to speak of". In fact, Richard Walker gave walking tours of the resort for years. They both have ties close to the resort. They're looking forward to the repairs in order to preserve the resort for many more years to come. The first phase of the project includes the first of two underground parking structures. The entire project also includes adding 142 new guest rooms, a new Conference Center and repairs to the roof. The entire project is expected to be complete by the end of 2021. Bell tells 10News the construction could cause some headaches but they'll be worth it, "which will be noisy dusty dirty incovienent but at the end I think it will be a beautiful project". Many in the community say it's well overdue and a small price to pay to keep the Hotel del around for another 100 years, "if it hadn’t been for the Hotel del, Coronado wouldn’t even be here to speak of" Walker tells 10News. 1755

CLEVELAND - This story proves just about anyone can get scammed. A man from Oberlin, Ohio said even though he's an experienced buyer and seller of cars online, criminals got him."You never thought you'd be a victim of a scam like this,” we asked Derrick Macarthy. “Never,” Macarthy told us.He isn't some dumb guy who fell for a scam. “The eBay Motors page looked official,” he remembered.Macarthy was looking for a van, found one on Craigslist. It was 00 and to him that’s a lot of money. "I don't have 00 to just throw away," he told us.The seller sent him a note saying the husband supposedly died 5 months ago. "They told me they had just moved to another state and that they were dealing with eBay Motors," said Macarthy.He wasn't familiar with eBay Motors, but he went to Rite Aid anyway. He bought a half-dozen eBay gift cards and gave the crooks the numbers. Then, he even got a message from them saying "I'm sure you will love this car...take good care of it…I loved this car very much.""They're good, huh?” we asked.“They are. So, buyers beware," Macarthy replied.Beware because Macarthy got another message 30 minutes later saying they needed a thousand dollars more to ship the car to him. Macarthy knew, though, the ad said no shipping fee. So, the red flags went up and called eBay."When you hear, 'You've been scammed,' what goes through your mind?” we asked him.“I just hit the floor,” said Macarthy. He was devastated. He has a family that needs a van. Plus, he never suspected anything because he's bought and sold cars with honest people on Craigslist in the past. "I put the ad on there. (Buyers) responded. Money, title, and keys were exchanged and everybody was happy. (That’s) not how it happened this time."Macarthy said he went to local police but they don't have the resources to track down the scammers who stole his money. "I wish there was some way to get that back,” he told us.eBay Motors has a big warning that even highlights Craigslist for scams like this. The examples include scammers using eBay gift cards.The Better Business Bureau also has warnings and advice.Macarthy has his own suggestions for you. "Things can look very, very real and be the total opposite. So, just be careful."eBay Motors suggests you tell the seller that you'll pay when you pick up the car. And watch out for sellers wanting quick payments through gift cards, wire transfers, or re-loadable money cards.  2436

Country superstar Garth Brooks is bringing a concert to people in their cars across the U.S. later this month.Brooks will host a concert event at 300 drive-in theaters across North America on June 27.
