TASHKENT, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Liu Yunshan, a member of the Political Bureau of the Coummunist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev on Wednesday vowed to boost bilateral ties.Liu, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said China was willing to work together with Uzbekistan to boost bilateral cooperation, especially in media, publishing and culture.Liu said bilateral ties had strengthened in recent years and he thanked Uzbekistan for its support of the core interests of China. BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Sunday night called for more quality shows from private arts troupes to contribute to the development and the prospering of the country's socialist culture.Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks after watching a Shaoxing opera that ended the three-week show season by China's private arts troupes in Beijing.Shaoxing opera is a traditional Chinese local opera originating in east China's Zhejiang Province.Li stressed that privately-owned arts troupes can survive only when their plays satisfy the market and the public.He said he hoped private arts troupes would produce more competitive shows with a positive and healthy theme and grow stronger by winning public support.Private arts troupes must be treated equally in terms of professional evaluation, social security coverage and support of artistic creation as are those state-owned cultural companies, he said.

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- All the Chinese trapped in the flood-hit Pakistan's northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been evacuated to safe places with the assistance of the Pakistani side, said Liu Jian, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan on Monday.According to Liu, a total of 265 Chinese workers and engineers working at a hydro power station project in the Patan area of Kohistan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were trapped on a mountain after a huge landslide triggered by floods and torrential rains washed across their work site on July 29.Three Chinese engineers and workers went missing after they were reportedly washed away by the flood water and landslide while working inside a tunnel.The trapped Chinese who retreated up to a nearby mountain surrounded by the flood water suffered a great deal as they were in serious lack of food and water and had to fight the coldness of living in the open atop a mountain lashed by torrential rains.Upon hearing the news of the Chinese trapped in the flood-hit area of northwest Pakistan, the Chinese embassy immediately kicked off an emergency rescue operation under the assistance of the Pakistani government, army and police.Three military helicopters were dispatched to the site where the Chinese were trapped for the rescue work. Large numbers of troops and police forces were mobilized as well. The Chinese ambassador together with his embassy colleagues also rushed to the site from Islamabad on July 31 by fighting the difficulties on the disrupted roads leading to Patan.After nearly five days of cocerted efforts by the Chinese and Pakistani sides, all the Chinese trapped on the mountain in the Patan area had been evacuated to safe places as of late Monday afternoon, said Liu Jian, adding that the search operation for the three missing Chinese is still underway.However, the chance for the survial of the three missing Chinese is very slim, said Pakitani police officers who are involved in the search operation.
BEIJING, Aug.6 (Xinhua)-- China's Ministry of Finance announced Friday it will float a batch of 273-day book-entry treasury bonds worth 10 billion yuan (1.48 billion U.S. dollars) next week.A statement on the ministry's website said the bonds will be sold at 98.62 yuan per bill, with an annual yield of 1.88 percent.The bill will be sold to the public from Aug. 9 to 11, and become tradable in the exchange markets since Aug. 13, according to the statement.The interest is to be calculated on August 9.This is the 10th batch of its kind launched by the ministry this year.
URUMQI, Aug. 3 (Xinhua)-- Six people were dead and two were missing in a flood that hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on July 26, said local authorities Monday.Torrential rains pounded Akto County from July 26 to 27, triggered flooding, damaged houses and mines, according to the committee of the Communist Party of China of Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture which administers the county.
