SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Anxiety is growing along La Jolla Boulevard after months of drive-by vandals shattering the windows of businesses, homes and cars."It's a little terrifying, random, and I don't know when it's going to happen," said David Heine.Heine owns Beaumont's Eatery. Last Saturday, just before 7 p.m., a customer parked a car across the street."Just crossed the street onto the sidewalk, when we heard the smash. Their car window shattered. At the same time, rocks came through our awning," said Heine.Heine says the rocks tore through the vinyl awning and struck his hostess, who wasn't injured."The rocks bounced past kids on the patio. It's a dangerous situation," said Heine.It's a danger that isn't going away. The incident is the latest of five similar incidents here in the past few months. Along a mile-and-a-half stretch of La Jolla Blvd., a similar story has been unfolding: Kitchen and car windows shattered, along with windows of other businesses like the Baskin-Robbins.Megan Murphy, co-owner of Verdes El Ranchero restaurant, just finished replacing her second rock shattered window. But this Saturday night, a clue emerged from her new cameras. In the video, a dark sedan pauses to let two people cross the street, before a person wearing red leans out of the window and appears to toss something out. At the same time, rocks appear on the ground near the pedestrians. The rocks recovered have been about an inch long, but they've been thrown with velocity. A handful of people have been hit, but there have been no serious injuries."One of these times someone is going to get seriously hurt, and it's not okay ... not kids being kids. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Carlsbad leaders this week approved nearly 0,000 to construct a new trail planned to loop around the city's strawberry fields.Carlsbad City Council voted to add the Hub Park trail to the city's Capital Improvement Program, a 2.4-mile trail on the south shore of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in an area dubbed "Hub Park."Hub Park sits on land owned by SDG&E. The city has a lease agreement with SDG&E for a portion of the trail, but not the portion that would connect to nearby roads.RELATED: San Diego County park rangers recommend these trails in 2019The city voted to take 4,500 from the General Capital Construction Fund to fund building the eight-foot wide trail.The trail would lead from a new Interstate 5 bridge to a bluff within the leased property that overlooks the lagoon, the city says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities have identified one of the teens killed after he was believed to have mistakenly jumped from a bridge following a crash on a Carmel Valley freeway. According to the medical examiner, 18-year-old Ruben Ortiz Jr., died after jumping from the bridge on State Route 56 near Carmel Valley Road around 11 p.m. Tuesday. The other teen who died after jumping from the bridge was a 17-year-old male California Highway Patrol says was the driver of the vehicle. A family friend says the 17-year-old was Jesse Garcia. CHP says when the car came to a stop, it was facing oncoming traffic. Witnesses told CHP that six people got out of the car, running across the freeway lanes toward the right shoulder to avoid oncoming traffic. Four people from the group then jumped over the right shoulder, not realizing they were jumping off the bridge, CHP says. The four fell 50-75 feet from the structure, and CHP officials said two males died at the scene.A 14-year-old girl and 15-year-old girl were taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with injuries of unknown severity.The two others from the group, who reportedly fled the scene after the crash, were located by police late Tuesday night, according to CHP. One of the teenagers is 14-years-old while the other is 15. Police say the responded to a crash on Broadway and North Avenue. Although the Altima wasn't involved in that crash, officers reported that they saw people getting into the vehicle who may have been involved in the crash.When officers tried to pull the Altima over, the driver sped away. The second pursuit happened later in the day around 12:30 p.m., police say.Both chases were terminated after police determined speeds were too high. 2204
