NASA says they are reexamining nicknames for distant objects in outer space such as planets, galaxies, and nebulae because they are insensitive and could be actively harmful.The Agency says the change is part of their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.The unofficial names are sometimes used by members of the scientific community, the agency said. For example, the nickname for planetary nebula NGC 2392 was Eskimo nebula.NASA said in a press release that they will not use that nickname anymore.They said they will also do away with the name Siamese Twins Galaxy, which has been used to refer to a pair of spiral galaxies in the Virgo Galaxy Cluster."These nicknames and terms may have historical or cultural connotations that are objectionable or unwelcoming, and NASA is strongly committed to addressing them," said Stephen T. Shih, Associate Administrator for Diversity and Equal Opportunity at NASA Headquarters in the press release. "Science depends on diverse contributions, and benefits everyone, so this means we must make it inclusive.”NASA said they will work with experts of diversity, inclusion, and equity in the astronomical and physical sciences to "provide guidance and recommendations for other nicknames and terms for review." 1267

More than half of parents think their children can get the flu from the vaccine, according to a new national survey by Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The survey also found that one-third of parents also think the flu shot doesn't work. “The parts of the virus that are used are completely dead, so you cannot get the flu from the flu shot,” said Dr. Jean Moorjani, a pediatrician at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. “After receiving the shot, it takes your body about two weeks to build up antibodies to fight the flu, so if you come in contact with the virus during that time, you may still get sick, which is why you should get your flu shot as early as possible.”Doctors say this type of misinformation is dangerous. 777

Nashville will be home to Amazon’s new executive operations center -- bringing 5,000 jobs to the area and making it the largest jobs announcement in Tennessee's history.  Amazon made the announcement Tuesday morning, saying the location would be its new Operations Center of Excellence and be the company's headquarters for its logistics group. Amazon has chosen New York City and Northern Virginia to split duty as its second headquarters.  Nashville will serve as the company’s Retail Operations division, which will be located in downtown just north of The Gulch in the Nashville Yards development -- a billion dollar project between Church Street and West End. The one million square foot office space will house the tech and management functions of the Retail Operations division, including customer fulfillment, customer service, transportation, and supply chain, amongst others.“Amazon has spent the past year searching the nation for the best possible locations to expand and it chose Tennessee because of our business-friendly policies, low taxes and skilled workforce," Governor Bill Haslam said in a statement. The company is making an estimated 3 million capital investment over seven years and creating 5,000 net new full-time jobs with an average pay of .32 an hour, which is more than 0,000 a year.Currently, Amazon employs approximately 2,500 people in the Nashville region across five fulfillment and sortation centers. MONROVIA (CNS) - Monrovia-based Trader Joe's announced Thursday that 1,250 of its 53,000 employees nationwide tested positive for COVID-19 within the past eight months, with two deaths reported in which coronavirus was suspected of being a contributing factor.The neighborhood grocery store chain -- which has 514 stores in 42 states and Washington, D.C. -- said the rate of its workers who have been infected during the pandemic is about 2.4%."We believe that the results in virtually all areas are below the average rates of positive cases in each community where we have stores," Trader Joe's said in a statement which noted that 95% of the employees who tested positive and completed a quarantine period have recovered and chosen to return to work.The company said that 24% of its stores have had no positive COVID-19 cases reported among employees, with 83% of its stores having had zero to four cases reported among workers.No further information was released."The health and safety practices and procedures that have been put in place, and that continually evolve, have been effective because of the great work done by our crew members in every store, every day.
