BEIJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin Sunday urged Beijing to transform its economic development pattern and improve people's livelihood.Beijing should foster more enterprises in high tech industry, build Zhongguancun, dubbed as China's "silicon valley", into in an innovation hub with global influence, said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), during his inspection in Beijing on Saturday and Sunday.Jia called on the Chinese capital to take positive steps to shape an eco-friendly and energy-saving industrial framework, growth pattern and consumption mode.In addition, the city should spend more efforts in solving problems in people's daily life, including housing, traffic, education, health care and social security, he said.Jia also met with local political advisors and representatives from all walks of life, calling on them to study major economic and social issues and contribute their talent to the scientific development and social harmony and stability.

BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Monday urged Party cadres to regard the well-being of the people always as a top priority in order to best achieve the governing purpose of the Party.Xi, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and president of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the school's opening ceremony for spring semester.Xi said the Party officials should remember that serving the peole is a basic requirement for the CPC which seeks to apply fundamental Marxist theories to China's socialist cause and modernization drive.Xi called on Party officials to apply Marxist theories to analyzing and solving matters that arise during China's modernization drive in their study of the theoretical system of the socialism with Chinese characteristics.About 1,800 people, including Party officials attending the school's spring sememster and lecturers of the school, attended Monday's ceremony.

BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government's insight and the adjustment of the economic pattern were the two major factors helping China ride out the global economic downturn, scholars said here Sunday.Zhuang Fuling, professor of Renmin University, said the Chinese government made a correct analysis of China's economic situation and took quick and resolute action.At the end of 2007, the central government called for vigilance against possible scenarios of various sorts. BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua)-- China's Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced Wednesday it would issue a batch of ten-year book-entry treasury bonds with a total par value of 26 billion yuan (3.8 billion U.S. dollars) starting on Thursday.The batch is the 7th of its kind the MOF has issued this year. The issue of this batch of T-bonds ends on March 29, according to a statement on the MOF's official website.The bonds would be traded on the interbank bond market and securities bond market from March 31.The bonds have a fixed annual interest rate of 3.36 percent, with the interests to be paid every half year, on March 25 and Sept. 25, respectively, according to the statement.The last interest payments and principals would be paid back together on March 25, 2020, statement said.　 Book-entry bonds are the bonds recorded in the investors' securities accounts called book entries. They can be traded on the open market, and their market prices can deviate from par value.
