Celebrity chef Mario Batali is at the center of a police investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct.Anderson Cooper, reporting for "60 Minutes" on CBS, spoke to former employees who worked in restaurants with which Batali was associated. Multiple women described his alleged inappropriate behavior. CARLSBAD (CNS) -- A state appellate court panel reversed the molestation conviction Friday for a former Carlsbad military boarding school administrator who was tried twice on allegations that he molested a cadet at the Army and Navy Academy.Jeffrey Barton, 62, was convicted in 2017 of five felony counts of forcible oral copulation and one felony count of forcible sodomy for allegedly molesting a cadet beginning in 1999, when the alleged victim was 14 years old.Barton was sentenced to 48 years in state prison for the conviction.A three-justice panel from the Fourth District Court of Appeal agreed with Barton's contentions that the trial judge should not have dismissed one of the jurors during the trial.The panel ruled Friday that Barton's trial may very well have concluded differently had the juror not been excused, allegedly for refusing to deliberate with her fellow panelists.The justices wrote in their ruling that the other jurors appeared to disagree with Juror No. 12, but did not provide enough of a showing that she was actively stalling deliberations.The ruling indicates the juror did not appear to find the alleged victim credible."The trial court's error in discharging Juror No. 12 warrants reversal," the panel wrote. "She was the lone holdout juror who consistently held to her belief Barton was not guilty and, had she remained on the jury, it is reasonably probable the case would have ended in a mistrial, a more favorable result for Barton than conviction."The panel wrote that Barton was convicted "within hours" of the juror being discharged.The convictions came in Barton's second trial.In his first trial, almost two years before , a different jury deadlocked on the charges involving the alleged victim.Two other former Army and Navy Academy students testified in the first trial that they were molested by Barton, but the defendant was acquitted on those charges. 1908

They're overwhelmed, because they don't have the same resources or outlets they had previously.The pandemic may also be keeping loved ones at home longer.“Aging in place has gone from being a desire, a wish, to almost a mandate or something that really has to happen because families are just afraid to have their elderly loved ones put in a nursing home,” said John Schall, CEO of the Caregiver Action Network.Schall says we need more training and financial support for the caregivers in this situation.The expansion of telehealth has been helpful, but one challenge is when caregivers can't be present when that virtual visit is happening, like they would be with an in-person doctor's visit.Experts at the help desk are making sure caregivers focus on their self-care now more than ever. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — U.S. history from the Mayflower through the American Revolution is on display in Carlsbad.The Green Dragon Tavern and Museum, off Interstate 5 at Palomar Airport Road, offers a full-service restaurant and a chance to look at original documents from the country's Colonial Period."Not a lot of families have the money or time or resources to be able to travel back east and experience these things first hand," says Green Dragon General Manager John Lek. "A lot of our guests say they feel like they're in Boston or New England without having to leave San Diego."The museum's artifacts are all part of a private collection owned by a local man, who asked not to be identified. He wanted to share his collection with the rest of San Diego, and put them on display at the restaurant.Among the items are documents signed by 14 of America's founding fathers. That gives visitors a chance to see the signatures of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, John Hancock and more.Lek says just seeing these items can give people a deeper link to their past."There is something authentic and something that really settles in when you have a direct connection with our forefathers," says Lek.The museum has been open for five years. Right now, everything fits within a single room. But there are plans for expansion.Lek says the museum will open a second room with more interactive and hands-on technology, as well as more artifacts from America's past.Admission to the museum is free, and it's open anytime the restaurant is open.
