SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric is warning more than 88,000 customers of a possible multi-day power shutoff due to Santa Ana Winds.According to the company, the public safety power shutoff could happen as early as Wednesday night or Thursday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Gas and Electric said Tuesday night that the company has started work to restore power in certain areas. The company says wind in certain parts of the county has died down and employees are beginning to inspect power lines before turning power back on. To see when SDG&E expects to turn power back on in your area, click here. The company shut off power to nearly 30,000 customers Tuesday morning due to a public safety shut-off or unplanned outages due to high winds, the utility company reported.  By Tuesday night, that number dropped to about 18,600 customers."Before nightfall (Tuesday), we worked to expedite the process to begin restoring power to some customers impacted by today’s strong weather event. SDG&E crews and contract firefighters helped patrol power lines to ensure they were safe and free of debris, so we could begin safely restoring power. This same process will begin at daylight (Wednesday), starting with areas of the county that are not expected to see high wind speeds (on Wednesday)," an SDG&E spokesperson told 10News in an email.“We recognize how inconvenient it is to be without power. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Rocks or BB pellets have hit more than a dozen taxis as they traveled near the San Diego International Airport over the past week, cab drivers told 10News.The attacks along Harbor Drive have left cracks in their windshields and dents in the vehicles’ sides, cabbies said.“It's life threatening and we are just shocked what's going on,” said cabbie Ahmad Saddat-Nejad.Saddat-Nejad, who has been driving for almost 30 years, said he has never had anything like these attacks happen.“My car was not even in motion. Suddenly, I hear ‘boom’. Somebody threw a rock,” he said, reporting an incident on Harbor Drive at Laurel Street.“It happened to five cars yesterday again,” said Alex Tegegne of the San Diego Taxi Association.Tegegne said the attacks occur every night after dark, from North Harbor Drive down the Embarcadero.“We start to say do we need a helmet, or what should we do now? Should we avoid going on Harbor? What can we do,” Tegegne told 10News.In all, 17 cabs have been targeted.“It is totally very scary, and the customers don't feel comfortable about it,” said Tegegne.Cab drivers say they can’t afford to lose those customers. The success of Uber and Lyft have taken a toll on the taxi industry.“We don't know if this thing is taking business from us. We are already on life support to begin with, but this will be another threat to our customers and also ourselves," Tegegne said.The threat could be enough to put drivers out of work.“He could have killed me and I’m scared of driving now. This is my living and how I’m supporting my family,” said Ezzaddin Fato.San Diego Harbor Police confirm the arrest of one suspect Saturday, but said another attack has happened since then. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County is expected to consider a plan to open up county parks for worship and workouts.Supervisor Dianne Jacob is proposing the idea which is expected to be discussed by the board on Aug. 5. The proposal would make it easier for houses of worship and fitness centers, impacted by the pandemic, to utilize county parks. The proposal aims to speed up the permit process and waive fees.Public health orders have hindered the operations of many houses of worship and fitness centers after they were forced to close their indoor areas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and seven other California mayors are calling for the state to loosen restrictions on reopening large theme parks.The letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom requests that the state allow large theme parks to reopen with reduced capacity under the state's third reopening tier (orange/moderate) rather than the fourth (yellow/minimal).The letter stated that, "guidelines put forth by your Administration were released within the framework of prioritizing public health and safety for guests and employees. This is the right focus. However, economic and public health are not mutually exclusive goals.""We are concerned that the state's guidelines would push re-opening of large theme parks up to a year out, which would have significant negative impacts on hundreds of thousands of jobs, thousands of small businesses, and billions in operating revenue for our cities," the letter dated Oct. 30 stated.The letter pointed out San Diego, Los Angeles, and Anaheim as the most impacted cities.The letter is signed by Faulconer, Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu, Los Angeles Mayor Kevin Garcetti, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, Fresno Mayor Lee Brand, Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh, Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey, and Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido. The mayors' cities are either in the red or purple tier of the state's reopening plan.California's theme park guidance allows smaller theme parks to resume operations in the state's third reopening tier (moderate/orange) with a limited capacity of 25% or 500 visitors, whichever is fewer; only outdoor attractions; and ticket sales limited to visitors in the same county.All theme parks may resume operations in the state's fifth tier (yellow/minimal) with a limited capacity of 25%.
