ORLANDO, Fla. — Fans are calling on Disney parks to re-theme one of their most iconic rides.A petition posted on Change.org asks Disney to remove all references to its 1946 film "Song of the South" from Splash Mountain.The petition says the movie "steeped in extremely problematic and stereotypical racist tropes." The petition suggests Disney should re-theme the ride around "Princess and the Frog." Tiana, the main character in the film, is recognized for being Disney's first African-American princess.The petition had more than 8,000 signatures as of Thursday morning. The petition's current goal is set at 10,000 signatures.The call for change comes as the country continues to hold discussions surrounding racial injustice in the wake of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis police custody.Floyd's death caught the nation's attention after bystander video showed the 46-year-old man struggling to breathe while in police custody in late May. The video showed a white police officer, later identified as Derek Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes.Chauvin was initially charged with third-degree murder before charges were upgraded to second-degree murder. He's also charged with manslaughter.The three other officers involved in Floyd's arrest — Tou Thao, J. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of expanding a clause that prevents the application of anti-discrimination laws from religious institutions.In a 7-2 decision, with liberal justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor dissenting, the court expanded the "ministerial exception," siding with a California Catholic school that did not renew the contracts of two teachers.In the case of Our Lady of Guadalupe School v. Morrisey-Berru, the teachers claimed they were discriminated against because they were released from their contracts after they did not receive certification in a Catholic teaching course. The teacher later sued, saying she had been discriminated against because of her age.However, the citing precedent from the landmark 2014 Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. case, the court ruled that the school and other such institutions are protected from discrimination lawsuits. 896

OMAHA, Nebraska — Just before 5 p.m local time Monday, Omaha Police were called to the scene of a traffic incident involving a school bus near an intersection in North Omaha. Police later confirmed the boy, 8-year-old Haji Mohamed of Omaha, had died. According to a report from OPD received Monday night, "the investigation revealed that a Student Transportation of America school bus had come to a stop along Sprague Street just east of 22nd Street at a designated student drop off location."After several students disembarked the bus, the bus driver continued her route westbound on Sprague Street," the report states. "As the bus was traveling between 22nd Street and 23rd Street, an 8-year old male child who had just disembarked the bus, attempted to run across Sprague Street from north to south. As soon as the child entered the roadway, he was struck by the bus."The boy was transported by emergency personnel to Nebraska Medicine in extremely critical condition. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the boy was pronounced dead, the OPD release states.  Early OPD reports indicated the elementary-aged boy was transported with "extremely critical injuries" to Nebraska Medicine, said Sgt. Chuck Casey of the OPD incident unit, who gave an update near the scene. Omaha Public Schools later confirmed in a statement that the injured boy is a second-grader from Springville?Elementary School, located near 60th and Girard streets, about five miles northwest of the incident.The boy's family was with him at the hospital, Casey said.Early reports indicated the boy was struck by the front of the bus — the only vehicle involved in the incident — but the scene will be under investigation for some time, he said."At this time, Omaha Public Schools administrators, Student Transportation of America and OPS Student Transportation are cooperating with the Omaha Police Department as they investigate the incident," according to a statement from OPS early Monday evening. "Administrators are also supporting and working with the family of the student."Casey said initial reports were that the boy was a passenger on the bus. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) -- The beach may still be Oceanside’s biggest draw, but increasingly, people are coming for the beer.With seven breweries, several tap rooms and San Diego’s first meadery, Oceanside is earning a reputation among those looking for a pint.“They’ve brought a really interesting liveliness to Oceanside,” said the city’s economic development manager, Michelle Geller.Geller estimates Oceanside’s beer businesses have created 50 to 75 jobs, along with other economic benefits.LIFE IN OCEANSIDE:From 'Ocean Side' to region's third-largest city5 places to spend the day in Oceanside“It tends to give way to businesses that want to have their offices in the downtown,” she said. “Employees just like that creative culture of craft beer.”The oldest active brewery in Oceanside is Breakwater Brewing, the first to take up residence along Coast Highway. It opened in 2008 during the teeth of the Great Recession, when downtown had a different feel.“Lot of crime,” said co-owner Shannon Sager. “We had people grabbing money. Our tip jar had like in it once, people ran in, grabbed it and ran out. We started gluing it to the table. That doesn’t happen anymore.”As the downtown landscape shifted, more breweries opened nearby.“The next thing you know, it started taking off,” Sager said.Bagby Beer Company, Belching Beaver, Legacy Brewing, Northern Pine Brewing, Oceanside Brewing Company and Golden Coast Mead now round out Oceanside’s craft scene.
