"I've worked for Ford Motor Company for 24 years," Terry Bowman, who serves as co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, said. "The American worker deserves four more years of a Trump presidency," Bowman said. Bowman said while union leadership maybe backing Biden, many on the assembly line are backing Trump. Bowman says workers like Trump's tough tough talk and believe his new trade deal is better than the alternative. ON THE ISSUESSo how do the candidates want to help the auto industry? Biden wants to shift 300,000 government cars from gas to electric, believing government investments would generate 1 million new jobs. Trump says his new USMCA trade deal will create 100,000 new jobs and that his rollback of environmental regulations will result in cheaper cars. At Inside the Five Brewery near the Michigan/Ohio line, patrons are divided heading into the debate. "I am for Biden," Marge Mizer, said. "I like an upfront person that’s going to tell me the truth," Mizer said. Meanwhile David Bartlett says he wants Trump to send a message. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) - A full-page ad published in the Sunday Union-Tribune is creating waves in the effort to save San Diego beaches. Save Oceanside Sand is a North County group who started about three months ago to help protect the beaches in Oceanside after decades of erosion. Co-founder Dirk Ackema tells 10News, “When that ad came out in the Sunday paper we were so excited, so surprised, so curious.” We did some digging and found out Christie Walton posted the ad. Not only is she an avid surfer and San Diego resident, she is the daughter-in-law to the founders of Walmart. Both Walton and Save Oceanside Sand have similar perspectives when it comes to saving the sand. They believe in installing jetties and backfill beaches to protect the sand. In the ad, Walton talks about the current dredging method as not being a long term solution for San Diego Coast. The installation of jetties and groins to protect coastlines has been used around the world. Walton even looks to the specific groin used in Hawaii as an option to be used here in San Diego. Save Oceanside Sand has grown traction throughout the community over the past few months and are looking to expand further now knowing Walton could be a major ally. 1229

Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon has pulled out of a job as a correspondent for NBC at the Winter Games in South Korea.News broke earlier Sunday that Rippon, one of the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete at the Olympics, was being hired to work on TV, digital and social media for NBC for the remainder of the Games in Pyeongchang.NBC tweeted out the news Sunday morning, welcoming the 28-year-old bronze medalist to its team.But Rippon said hours later that although he was "so flattered" by NBC's offer, he decided against the move because it would mean leaving his U.S. teammates and the Olympic Village."It's so important to me, you know, I worked so hard to be on this Olympic team, and my teammates and my friends were there for me during my events, and that meant so much to me, that I really feel like I need to be there for them during their events," he said on NBCSN.NBC's article online about Rippon becoming one of its correspondents now redirects readers to his Olympic profile page.Rippon later suggested he only learned about the network's plans to hire him from social media."I actually found everything out about the offer via twitter HAHA," he tweeted. OCEANSIDE (KGTV): A program that offers daily, hot meals to seniors in Oceanside is running out of money and could be forced to close."It’s stressful, it’s super stressful," says Sylvia Spears, the Executive Director of the Oceanside Senior Citizens Association. "I've had sleepless nights, and I’m trying to figure out who do we pay, who do we not pay?"The program gives seniors a hot lunch every day at the Oceanside Senior Citizens Center. For people who can't make it, they also offer home delivery. For a lot of the seniors, it's the only hot meal and the only personal interaction they get all day."We become friends," says Patricia Bonynge, who's been coming to the meals for almost ten years. "Even though we don’t go to each other’s homes or talk on the phone, we come here, and we converse."Bonynge also used the home delivery service for a few months after she had foot surgery and couldn't drive or walk. She says it was a lifeline while she recovered.Spears says the program serves around 50,000 meals every year. That number continues to grow as Americans live longer."Clients are up; donations are down," she says.Right now, the meals are partially funded through a grant from the County. It's part of the Federal "Older Americans Act." The grant is a three-year contract, which expires on December 31st, 2018.But this year, Spears says she decided not to reapply because he hasn't been able to come up with enough money to cover the rest of the budget."Right now we need about 15,000 dollars extra per month to keep going," she says. "That includes our food, kitchen supplies and our trucks."Other organizations, like Meals on Wheels, could step in to fill the gap. Spears is also talking to the City of Oceanside for funding. There's a closed-session City Council meeting Wednesday night to address the issue.The city already lets the Association rent the Senior Center facilities and kitchen for per year. They also work with the San Diego Food Bank to do a monthly food box distribution for seniors who qualify.Despite that, city officials say they realize how important the hot meal program is to older residents."It gives them hope," says City Recreation Supervisor Homer Post. "That hope is what allows them to live until the next day. If you don’t take care of your elderly, you can’t take care of anything that you got going on."Spears is hopeful that someone will come through with a donation to keep the meals going.
