BEIJING, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- China again strongly urges all parties concerned to responsibly start negotiations and solve the problems in Korean Peninsula through peaceful means, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu said Saturday.Jiang called on all parties to make constructive efforts to reduce the tensions.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Beijing will face the challenge of an aging population over the coming five years and the city has limited experience in dealing with the phenomenon, the Beijing Morning Post reported Saturday.At the end of 2009, registered senior citizens in Beijing numbered 2.27 million, or 18.2 percent of the city's total population of permanent residents, the report said, citing the local government.The city will have a moderately aged society when its aged population reaches 3.24 million in 2015, the report said.Of the city's population of registered senior citizens, 1.94 million, or 85.6 percent, are below the age of 80 years, and 326,000, or 14.4 percent, are above the age of 80 years.In the coming five years, approximately 470,000 senior citizens in Beijing will require nursing.A survey conducted recently by the society and legal system committee of the municipal political consultative conference found that of 4,000-plus respondents, 24.5 percent intended to live in homes for the aged, a level much higher than the 4-percent level the municipal government expected.Some 53.3 percent of respondents said they are willing to spend their twilight years at home. That figure was significantly lower than the 90 percent figure the local government had expected.According to the survey, 99 percent of local citizens born after 1980 said they would not be able to look after their parents during their old age. 

TAIPEI, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- On the eve of Taiwan's mayoral and city councilor elections, Sean Lien, son of Lien Chan, honorary chairman of Kuomintang (KMT) party, was reportedly shot in the face when he was campaigning for a KMT candidate in Taipei County Friday evening.He was being treated at a local hospital. Local media cited doctors as saying Sean Lien's brain was not injured and his injury would not endanger his life.A spokeswoman of the hospital where Sean Lien was treated said he was sober-minded when he was sent to the hospital. SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held bilateral talks on Thursday with the presidents of South Korea, the United States and Russia, respectively, to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues including global economic recovery.The meetings took place after Hu arrived in Seoul earlier in the day for the summit of Group of 20 (G20) major economies in Seoul.RELATIONS WITH SOUTH KOREAWelcoming President Hu, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said he believed China would play an important role in promoting international economic cooperation within the G-20 framework.The two presidents reached a consensus on further strengthening the bilateral relations and on how to successfully hold the G-20 summit.The healthy and stable development of China's economy is very important to the development of Asia and also to the recovery of the world's economy, Lee said.The South Korean president also voiced hopes for the two countries to strengthen their exchange activities with an aim to increase mutual trust and further develop their bilateral strategic partnership.Hu said the Seoul G-20 summit is the first to be held in an Asian country and also in an emerging market economy.Hu stressed that China and South Korea are important neighbors and partners and that China is willing to work with South Korea to advance the bilateral strategic partnership into a comprehensive one.Hu said China has always supported the improvement of relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and South Korea."China is willing to play a constructive role in this regard," he said.Lee expressed his appreciation for China's efforts in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Penisula.

LONDON, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday met here with Britain's Labor Party Leader Ed Miliband.Li praised the Labor Party for pursuing a positive China policy and contributing to the development of Sino-British relations.The Labor Party has made great contributions to the development of bilateral ties, Li said.
