But more important, cooperation in the economic field is beginning to gather pace because we have crossed the diplomatic and political travails which have been going on in the last 10 years and come out more united because the Chinese veto also enabled Zimbabweans to find accommodation among themselves and led to the GNU and GPA," Mutsvangwa said.China, together with Russia, vetoed the British initiative for full-scale UN sanctions against Zimbabwe, saying the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU) should be given a chance to resolve the country's political problems.A SADC-driven initiative led to a Government of National Unity (GNU) following the signing of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) between Mugabe and then rivals Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara."So there is more national unity now among Zimbabweans. HARBIN, March 2 (Xinhua) -- A therapeutic apparatus to treat Parkinson's disease has been developed in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, according to the provincial science and technology department. It is a worldwide breakthrough in treating the disease with transcranial magnetic stimulation, concluded an expert panel with the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology.The team said it came to the conclusion after evaluating technical documents and clinical test results Monday.This is the first time that transcranial magnetic stimulation has been adopted to treat Parkinson's disease, said Sun Zuodong, chairman of Aobo Medicine Apparatus Co., Ltd. (AMA), the developer based in the provincial capital Harbin.Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a noninvasive method which causes depolarization in the brains' neurons so as to restore the functions of brain nerves.The apparatus consists of three parts, namely brain wave stimulator, field effect cap and multiplier, said Sun.Clinical tests over more than 100 patients showed that the apparatus had a 70 percent success rate in reducing the disease's symptoms, according to Wang Aili, planning manager of AMA.The new equipment will help generation of dopamine, the reduction of which within the brain caused the disease, said Wang Weixiang, a consulting doctor with the Heilongjiang Provincial Rehabilitation Hospital.Parkinson's disease is a disorder of the neural system, which leads to limb tremors and difficulty in walking and other movements.China has 2 million patients suffering from Parkinson's disease, mostly people over the age of 50, and the number is increasing by 100,000 annually, said Dr. Wang.

It is a time for family reunions, gift giving and fireworks.It will be even merrier for the survivors of the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, who just moved into their new homes in the new town.The earthquake survivors are preparing for the first Spring Festival in their new homes.Xia Tianfeng of Beichuan County, Mianyang City, is sticking red paper decorations onto the windows of her new house for good luck in the New Year."We finally have our new house. Why wouldn't I be happy?" asked Xia.She and her family lived in a makeshift house for two years before moving into their new house one month ago.Dong Depa, 43, and his family moved into their new house in Yingxiu Town, the epicenter of the quake, five days ago."I can pay off the debt incurred to build the house in two years," said Dong, who spent only 30,000 yuan (4,541 U.S. dollars) for the house's construction and decoration, with the rest being shouldered by the government.Dong lost his two children in the quake but he and his wife have since had another child, a son."Last year, we spent the Spring Festival in the dormitory of the brick factory where I work as a cook. Now we can finally enjoy the festival in our own home," said Dong, unable to conceal his joy.Xia told Xinhua the ceremony for the new county seat was the real taste for a happy new year.Reconstruction has finished in the quake-hit zones in Sichuan, with most survivors now in their new houses.In Beichuan County alone, 96.5 percent of the survivors already have their new house.The new county seat is located in Yongchang Town, about 23 kilometers from the quake-leveled old one.The 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck southwest China on May 12, 2008, leaving about 80,000 people dead or missing.Waving goodbye to their temporary barracks, 7,397 households have been allocated new apartments, among which 3,504 households were former Beichuan residents, while others were from different Wenchuan earthquake-hits regions."The new apartment has already been simply decorated by the time I received the door key. BERLIN, May 26 (Xinhua) -- German health officials said Thursday that cucumbers imported from Spain was one source of a recent deadly E. coli outbreak in northern states that killed three people and made hundreds sick.The Hamburg Institute for Hygiene and the Environment (HU) found that four cucumbers in a local market were contaminated by Enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC), and three of them were imported from two separate Spanish suppliers, Hamburg state health authorities said.The origin of the fourth cucumber was still under investigation, officials added.German supermarkets began to pull Spanish cucumbers off shelves Thursday afternoon following the findings in Hamburg. The food- monitoring agencies in the northern states were launching investigations on vegetable markets, the federal agriculture ministry said in a statement.Figures showed that Spain is Germany's second largest supplier of cucumbers within the European Union, accounting for some 40 percent of the country's cucumber imports.Scientists said that EHEC is a virulent strain of gut bacterium that can cause severe stomach upsets, diarrhea, stroke and coma. It would lead to kidney failure in extreme cases.Germany saw a terrible E. coli outbreak two weeks ago, starting from the northern states like Hamburg and then spreading to eastern and southern regions. German health authorities said that at least three people have died from infections, and more than 200 have been diagnosed with hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), which is caused by EHEC.Germany's national disease centre, the Robert Koch Institute, suggest people avoid eating raw tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce for a while.
