VISTA (CNS) - A 24-year-old man was behind bars today for reportedly crashing his car into a freeway work zone in the far northern reaches of San Diego County while drunk, injuring himself along with two construction crew members.Ross Rodgers, 24, was headed south on Interstate 15 near Mission Road in the unincorporated Rainbow community about 10:50 p.m.Sunday when his 2008 Toyota Prius veered over traffic cones and entered the closure area, where it hit the back end of a stationary 2008 Ford F-250, according to the California Highway Patrol.A worker behind the wheel of the pickup truck and a second one on foot nearby suffered apparently minor injuries in the wreck.Medics took the two men, ages 30 and 36, to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for evaluations, CHP Officer Kevin Smale said. Rodgers was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and transported to the same hospital for treatment of a broken bone in his right foot.Upon his release from medical care, the San Diego resident was booked into the county jail in Vista on suspicion of felony DUI.The crash led to intermittent closures of parts of the freeway in the area until about 5 a.m., Smale said. 1186
Wall Street does not like the mixed messages coming out of the White House on trade. The Dow fell 600 points, or 2.4%, on Friday afternoon. The Nasdaq plunged 3%, while the S&P 500 retreated 2.4%.The Dow closed for the day down 588 points.Stocks had been trading higher earlier Friday, but the market turned sharply lower following conflicting messages coming out of the Trump administration about trade. While White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow sounded an optimistic note about China talks on CNBC, trade adviser Peter Navarro was simultaneously warning on CNN of higher tariffs if issues aren't resolved during the 90-day negotiating period."We've gotten a hodge-podge of mixed messages from people in the same administration," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley FBR. "We're not sure who we're supposed to listen to."Investors also received a softer jobs report on Friday. The Labor Department said the United States?added 155,000 jobs in November, missing expectations for a gain of 200,000. But the labor news did not trigger a selloff and some traders likely figured the slowdown in hiring will reduce pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.Worries about the negative consequences of the trade war and hopes for progress have launched Wall Street on a wild ride of late. The US-China ceasefire sent stocks soaring on Monday. But doubts about the truce helped knock the Dow nearly 800 points into the red on Tuesday. And then the Dow plunged 785 points on Thursday before staging a huge comeback."It doesn't feel like much of a ceasefire," said Ed Yardeni, president of investment advisory Yardeni Research. 1697

Want to know how old your dog is in human years? A new study states that calculating every dog year isn't equal to 7 human years. That's because your dog ages differently than you.Researchers at the University of California San Diego’s school of medicine said in a news release that a 1-year-old dog is similar to a 30-year-old person. But a 4-year-old pup is identical to a 52-year-old human."The formula is based on the changing patterns of methyl groups in dog and human genomes — how many of these chemical tags and where they’re located — as they age," researchers said in the release. "Since the two species don’t age at the same rate over their lifespans, it turns out it’s not a perfectly linear comparison, as the 1:7 years rule-of-thumb would suggest."This graph formula, which was created from the study, will match up the age of your dog with the comparable human age.Lead researcher Trey Ideker said that dogs that are younger age faster compared to humans.“This makes sense when you think about it — after all, a nine-month-old dog can have puppies, so we already knew that the 1:7 ratio wasn’t an accurate measure of age," Ideker said. For the new study, which was published in the journal Cell Systems, samples of blood from 105 Labrador retrievers were studied.Researchers plan to study other dog breeds to see if their method holds up. 1359
Voters were polarized after learning of Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation as a Supreme Court Justice. Both Republicans and Democrats who spoke with 10News on camera said they are frustrated with the way Doctor Christine Blasey?Ford's accusations were handled.READ RELATED:Brett Kavanaugh sworn in as Supreme Court justice"I'm truly just disgusted with the outcome and I'm just really disappointed with in our nation and what we stand for today," College Student Ngozi Egeonu said."It's very disappointing, I think it's very hurtful," Republican Ana Assaf said."He didn't give straight answers to me it seemed, then again I didn't see the whole interview, only saw bits and pieces," San Diegan Melvin Zelaya said.Egeonu said she's now concerned about Dr. Ford, "Now I'm worried about her own safety, and her own image knowing that she put herself out there and knowing this is something very traumatic that she's having to recall."They all agreed the FBI investigation felt rushed and inconclusive."I think it was disrespectful to the ladies who accused him and I don't think the whole, they didn't have enough time to investigate," Assaf said."I was surprised that that wasn't enough for them to be like hey, no we shouldn't nominate him," Zelaya said. Some believe the accusations are false and the timing is inappropriate, calling it a smear campaign. Zelaya says the past is relevant, "I think it is important because you know being on the Supreme Court is a really big deal, you're going to be on there the rest of your life and you're going to be making decisions that affect every citizen in this country's life."With the highly publicized hearings, some hope it will bring change."With this experience maybe he'll be open and fair, but I mean if he's already been sworn in there's nothing we can do now," Assaf said."I don't know if it will be enough to make an impact on how he stands as a person, I wish it would but I don't see that being much of a change for him," Egeonu said.Kavanaugh's confirmation tips the court in favor of Conservatives, concerning some voters. Zelaya said it is better to have an even and fair court. He said he was fond of Antonin Scalia because he was the wild card.An issue many women are concerned about is abortion and how Kavanaugh will vote on those cases."We have all these issues that are recycling from the past and I don't feel like anything is getting better, I hope with this people are able to wake up," Egeonu said.Kavanaugh's first cases are next week and focus on immigration, asbestos and firearms. 2639
